Kendall could only stare in shock and disgust at Principal Banks as uneasy murmurs were heard from the crowd. She had no idea why her usually kind principal was acting like this.
This was unfair, to say the least, what Principal Banks was doing. He was putting students in a very uncomfortable position that had to be terrifying for them. She never would've thought Banks would be biased like this.
No one made a move toward the stage.
Principal Banks made a sound of impatience. "Come now, we need to move quickly so we can make it to class. Every who is a supernatural, make their way to the stage now."
About twenty students slowly stood up and started making their way to the stage. She wasn't surprised to see Kameron make his way to the stage, but she was a bit surprised to see Jade. She knew Jade had helped with the ghost but didn't think it necessarily meant she was supernatural. Jade revealed to everyone she was a sorceress, or a witch, in simple terms. Someone screamed out, "I knew it!" as she walked back down the steps and to her seat and Kendall tried to see who said it but couldn't tell. Whoever it was, she wanted to pummel them to the ground and make them have to eat through a straw.
She watched as the students made their way to the stage. She saw the expressions of dread on all of their faces as they went up to the microphone and told everyone their names and what they were. The students ranged from shapeshifters, mermaids, vampires, fairies, and elves - it was like one big, strange fairy tale or some weird TV show. She halfway wondered if she was in some weird dream and she needed to wake up but she knew, deep down, that this was reality.
It felt like forever before it was done and a tense silence filled the room.
Principal Banks clapped his hands and beamed as though he hadn't just forced students to go through an uncomfortable or even traumatic experience. "Alrighty then, that settles it. Thank you everyone for your cooperation and let's have a good year, shall we? Go ahead and head to your first-period class and I'll talk to you all again soon."
The students slowly made their way out of the theater, murmurs traveling through the student body, the excitement of the first day of school replaced a strange and unsettling feeling.
Kendall read the look on Jade's face and saw how troubled Jade was. She reached out and touched the other girl's hand. "Are you okay?"
Jade nodded though her expression told Kendall she was anything but. She saw Kameron walking by them and as Hannah and Stephanie comforted Jade, she walked over to him. She didn't know why she was going over to him since she hadn't talked to him for two weeks but she had this urge to check on him.
She put a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Hey, are you okay?"
Kameron seemed surprised by her approaching him. He seemed to want to say something but he only gave her a curt nod before walking out of the theater. She watched him go before walking back to her friends and staying with Jade until they had to go to class. Unfortunately, the first period was the only class they didn't have together and Kendall wished she would have had the class with Jade so she could give her friend some support. This was not the way she wanted to start this school year.
