*Cate's POV*

Repeatedly my voice hollowed through the empty street, whining for Vee to stay. My throat became dryer with every sob and every cry.

Her body became colder, with every moment.

This couldn't be it. "Angle, please..." I begged her once more. There was no way this could be it.

Out of nowhere the brunette was drawing a sharp breath. Her eyes fluttered a gap wide open and she glimpsed at me.

"There you are." I sniffed and kissed her forehead. "You gotta stay with me, okay? The aid car will be here in a few minutes, but please stay... please, my angel." An unwanted cry left my lips and tears dripped down onto her face.

"Don't cry." Vee muttered and the attempt of a weak smile was written all over her face. "You look better when you smile." She moved her hand and I captured it in mine and placed it on my cheek, leaning into her touch.

"Can you... tell—" I interrupted whilst shaking my head.

"I will not tell anyone anything, my love. You will do that yourself. Did you hear me?" I sniffed and looked into her eyes.

They weren't the same.

There was no excitement or passion to be found. She was leaving me.. my heart ached and I inhaled shakily. "You can't leave me, angel... don't let go. Please." I whimpered out, and tears raced down my face. Stains were all over my cheeks and the tip of my nose. "I need you. We all do. Breathe. Please just keep breathing." More sobs let me cry out harder. "Don't let go."

"Cate.. please." My fiancé begged in a shallow voice. "It hurts." And as she blinked the tears dropped down the sides of her face.

"Don't let go, my angel." I kept repeating.

The coldness of our surroundings slowly got to me, but I wouldn't let go. Not of her body. Not of her at all.

"Breathe..."

"You haven't showed me the ocean yet." Vee breathed out.

"I was going to." I sniffed. "That's why I was so upset. They didn't send me the right— something didn't work out, but I wanted to give you the tickets. I was going to show you the ocean."

"Really?" Her voice was only a whisper.

"Yes." I nodded and my whole body was shaking.

"Cate?"

"Yes, my love?"

"You have to take the papers out of my drawer and make a book for Edith, it's for her birthday.."

"You will do that, angel." I sobbed. "You have to do it." My chest was heaving erratically, whilst I inhaled shakily.

And as even minutes later the aid car didn't show up, I knew it wasn't going to come. They weren't able to. And I had to make a decision. A decision that caused me to sob out as hard as never before. A decision, which forced me to hold myself together as hard as never before.

I had to. For her. She was holding on for me and I had to this for her now.

"You are my everything..." I muttered in-between softer cries and still a glimpse of hope she'd receive her shining eyes back. She didn't, though. There was no sparkle. None of what made Vee herself... "You can let go, my love. You -it's okay. We'll be okay." I sniffed and allowed the tears to flood down my cheeks.

"The kids..."

"They are being taken care of. We will be okay. No need to worry. You can let go. I allow you to, if you promise me to have an eye on us."

"Thank you" The brunette in my arms let out a cry and whimpered through her blue lips. I leaned closer and kissed her clammy forehead a last time.

"It's okay. I love you... so much. It's okay." I nodded.

"Love you more. You all..." And there she gazed at me, with lifeless eyes.

"Take care."
