First Classes

Luna P.O.V

"I'll see you guys after the first period then!" I said as I watched Savannah and Maya walk off "Yeah see you Luna". I walked down one of the hallways. I really hope this is the right direction I thought to myself. I looked around me and almost all of the students from earlier were gone they are probably already in class. I came to a halt once I saw the number 150 over a door. I took a deep breath. Here goes nothing I thought to myself. I grabbed the doorknob, but I didn't turn the knob. Why am I so nervous! Come one Luna get your act together I thought to myself. I turned the doorknob and slightly opened the door. Without stepping inside, I stuck my head in first. I took a quick glance inside the room. Definitely the right room though. There was a long table in the middle of the room with weird, small tables in front of the long one. There were a lot of different types of tools, furniture, paint, and clutter. Students were filling up the room. Most of them were sat chatting with each other, while others were keeping to themselves. While taking a look inside I made eye contact with one student in particular. He was sitting on a chair in front of one of the small weird-looking tables. Next to him sat another student. He seemed to be lost in thought. I looked back at the other student, but he refused to make eye contact with me again. He had dark brown hair and looked to be really tall. He wore jeans and a shirt with a sweater on top of it. He seemed uncomfortable with my stare, so I quickly averted my gaze. Realising how weird I must look for doing this, I quickly stepped inside the classroom. I slowly made my way over to the other students and the long table. I found a seat in front of one of the other students. After two minutes or so the school bell rang and in walked the teacher. Before speaking she put down her bag and sat on top of the teacher's desk. "Welcome back students. I hope you all had a great summer break" the teacher said with enthusiasm in her voice. A lot of groans could be heard from some of the students in the class. "Everyone please find a seat" she said, and the rest of the students began finding their seats. "I hope you are all excited about another semester" the teacher said as she looked around the classroom. Upon doing so I made eye contact with her. "I see we have a new student this year" she said with a smile "What is your name dear?". I looked around me and saw that most students were now looking at me "Oh, my name is Luna". The teacher smiled "What a lovely name". "You can call Mrs Blake" she said with an even wider smile "I'm sure you will get to know the other students soon, so let's just skip the old introductions and get right into our first course which is ceramic". Mrs Blake began lecturing us on how to use what she called "a pottery wheel". I assumed it was the small, weird table in front of each chair. After the long introduction to ceramics, the lesson finally progressed.

Everyone in the class was catching on with the lesson fast, but I was having a really hard time with it. This was a new way of learning for me. I usually just did everything myself and tried to figure it out by repeating things and failing terribly. I was apparently really bad with other people's instructions. I was struggling to shape my clay. We were all meant to shape it like a vase but mine looked more like an unloved bowl of some sort. I let out a frustrated groan. I looked at the other students' vases and they all looked somewhat good. I mean some of them sucked but definitely not as much as mine. I began to feel really discouraged. Maybe this whole school thing was a bad idea after all. How can I blend in when I can't even learn like a normal human being I thought to myself. I tried to get Mrs Blake's attention by raising my hand like I saw a lot of the other students do. This was to no avail. I was not the only one trying to get her attention. I sighed and looked in front of me. A guy was sitting on the other side of the table, completely focused on his work. Wow I thought as I saw how easily he had formed his vase. I really wanted to ask him how he did it, but I also really didn't want to disturb him. In the end, I finally just called out to him.
