Promise?

Everyone felt sore after the last fight. Bandages, salves and other medical supplies were laid out on the table and floor. Maya was currently helping Luna with the big gash across her chest. "I can't believe you did red magic" she dabbed a cloth with saline solution over the gash "Especially on the battlefield". Savannah twisted another cloth, wetting it before putting it on Luna's forehead "It doesn't matter where you do it. It's just the fact that you did it". Luna was completely drained from doing dangerous magic. Anything involving blood was a bad idea. It always left the caster drained of energy, especially when it was to the extreme of a blood-binding spell. Drops of sweat trickled down her forehead "I'm fine". Her voice was hoarse and dry. "Yeah, we can fucking tell" Savannah twisted the cloth again "At least you're alive". A dry laugh escaped Luna's lips. They were purple and dry "You look awful". Luna shot Maya a 'really' look "I probably look as good as I feel". She winced in pain once Maya began stitching her up. "Holy fuck" Savannah pushed her shoulders down "Deal with it. You've had worse". Luna rolled her eyes "Still hurts".

Once Maya was done the three girls settled down. "What do we do now?" Luna looked at them tired. "Nothing. Right now, you just need to rest" Savannah looked around the room "I guess everyone is doing the same thing". The room had gotten completely quiet as everyone had left. They sat in silence for a little while before Maya let out a short, heartfelt laugh "I still can't believe how all of this came to happen". Savannah shook her head with a smile on her face "I know. It all started with you wanting to go to school". "Oh c'mon! Look how far we've come because of it! If it wasn't for me, we would've never figured out our true selves" she looked away with a snobby expression "Oh cut it. It all started with the five werewolves". Maya slowly turned her gaze again "If it weren't for them, our high school experience would've been dull". "To be honest" Luna's hoarse voice cut through Maya and Savannah's conversation "She would've found us either way. We were just lucky to have met the others first". Maya bit the inside of her cheek unsure of how to answer. Luna had been thinking about what Leila said to her for a while now.

"Your bitch of a mother tricked me into becoming what I am today!"

"You must be wrong. My mother is dead"

"I WISH! She is very much alive"

"How do you know she's my mother?"

"It doesn't take a genius to see the resemblance between you two"

"I am not my mother"

"Then why are you acting like her?"

"Why are you killing innocent people instead of going after my mother then"

"She disappeared a long time ago and I haven't been able to track her down until I caught a familiar scent or should I say two"

"I could smell the family blood right off of you"

Luna shook her head trying to forget everything. Savannah put a comforting hand on her knee. "How about you lie down again" she slowly helped Luna lie down. Maya looked towards the kitchen, she nudged Savannah's shoulder. Savannah turned to look behind her. She cleared her throat "Someone seems to insist on talking with you" her gaze softened as she caressed Luna's cheek "We'll be in the kitchen". They both stood up before walking out into the kitchen.

Luna laid with her eyes closed, still trying to digest everything that happened a few hours ago. She was startled back into reality once she felt someone's presence. "Hey" a soft voice cut through the silence "How are you doing?". Yeonjun squatted beside the couch. Luna shrugged "I feel like shit". She let out a sarcastic laugh "You look like it too". "Gee thanks" she rolled her eyes. A guilty smile formed on Yeonjun's face. "Hey" he turned to look at her. She was laying on her back with a blanket all the way up to her chest.

"I guess this wasn't the ending you were hoping for" she looked at me with tired eyes. I nervously began picking at my fingers "No it wasn't. I wouldn't ever want you nor anyone else to be in such an awful state". She let out a soft and tired laugh "This won't kill me I'm a-". "Hundreds-of-year-old witch. Yeah, I know" I gave her a knowing smile. She turned on her side, so she was facing me. "So this is it then. No more murders or hunters?" she had a hopeful look on her face. I moved a strand of hair out of her face and behind her ear. "Yeah. This is it" I said in a gentle manner. "Doesn't mean I'm not gonna stay around though. I can't let you get into trouble all the time. Who else would be there to follow you on your journey to be the most powerful banshee in history? I wanna be featured in a history book" I said sarcastically. She giggled. "Yeah, wouldn't want me to get arrested by the police again. Though I guess I prefer autobiographies over biographies so maybe I'll write you in on some of the passages if you're lucky". "You know what. I do feel quite lucky" I gave her a small smile before guilt was hitting me from within. She seemed to notice my change in mood "It's not your fault". "It partially is. I should definitely be held accountable" she shook her head slowly "There are only two people who are to blame. And none of them is in this room or house right now". Even though her voice was quiet and weak, her words had so much power behind them, and I could tell that she genuinely meant them. I let out a short laugh of relief.

A little time had gone by and I could tell that her eyelids got heavier and heavier. I knew she was trying to stay awake for me. "It's alright. Fall asleep". She nuzzled into the pillow "No. I can stay awake". I laughed at her stubbornness "Please". Her eyes fluttered open again. Her gaze was calming and warm "You'll be gone when I wake up, right?". I shifted in my spot "What do you mean?". She let out a sigh before closing her eyes again "Out. Searching for answers". "Did you have another vision?" a small huff of air escaped her lips. Most likely an effort to laugh "Not a vision. I just know you... or at least I'm beginning to". A smile formed on my lips "I'll only be gone for a little while". Quiet. "Okay.." I grabbed the blanket and made sure it was covering her whole body, pulling it all the way up to her chin. "But I promise to see you as soon as I can" I squatted again. Silence. "Luna?" I heard her breathing become deeper. I let out a small laugh "And you're already asleep". I shook my head in disbelief. I looked at her sleeping face. My smile grew in size. I promise that this will be the last time you're hurt because of me. I remembered the time in the catacombs when she went out of her way to protect me and in the end, save my life. We weren't even close at that time, and she still put herself in danger for me. "You really are an idiot" I gently touched her hair. And to think that all of this started with a dream. A dream that would later save my life multiple times. I gently patted the top of her head. A smile seemed to be forming on her lips. I walked towards the kitchen. Little did Luna know that I wasn't the only one in need of answers. The others and I had all gathered in the kitchen, ready to discuss our next move. I looked back. One day I'll be able to repay you. I promise. "You ready?" Taehyun asked as I entered the kitchen. "Yeah, let's find this witch" I looked at all of them "Let's find Luna's mom".
