My phone pinged as Harper texted me that she was here to pick me up so that we could go with the boys to go get ice cream. Grabbing my small backpack, I slung it across my back and quickly moved to open the door, slipping out and locking it. Sliding into Harper's car, we began the drive to the closest ice cream parlor, knowing that we would likely beat the boys there. And boys say the women are always late.
The moment we pulled up, I could already tell that we had beaten them. Inside the parlor was quiet, and Harper and I moved to one of the booths at the back to hopefully not be as obtrusive when the boys got there.
Harper made mindless chit chat while I simply nodded along for the few minutes before the parlor door swung open with the ring of the bell and loud chatter sounded. Rolling my eyes, I smiled slightly before looking up to see the rest of the group walk in. However, one thing that stood out was Oliver's hand that was entwined with Skylar's. I made eye contact with her, and arched my brow.
She blushed before sitting next to Harper as they all slid in to fit inside the booth. Hunter and Oliver stayed standing while Logan sat at the edge of the booth. Hunter cleared his throat, "Alright, orders go!"
"Strawberry cheesecake," Harper piped up quickly before turning to Skylar.
I chimed in, "Cookies and cream." Hunter scoffed slightly and I half glared at him.
Logan was next, "Chocolate." I turned to Skylar but Oliver interrupted her before she could speak.
"Salted caramel right?" Skylar blushed, and mumbled a small 'yeah.' Oliver nodded and he and Hunter left to go order and wait for the ice creams. It only took about five minutes for them to come back with three bowls of ice cream each, passing them out smoothly before joining us in the booth.
The six of us rapidly grew louder as we all ate our ice creams, while also maintaining a conversation. It seemed Oliver had delighted in embracing his inner child, having chosen cotton candy as his flavor of choice while Hunter decided on the classic mint and chip.
Harper was quick to nudge Sky when the boys were engrossed in a conversation of their own, eagerly waiting to hear what had prompted the girl to walk in holding hands with Oliver.
"Soooooo, what did he say?? Or, what did you say?" Harper grinned cheekily as Skylar looked down with a faint smile and reddening cheeks. I let a small smile slip onto my face at her obvious embarrassment on the subject.
Still looking down, Skylar mumbled, "He asked me to go to his Halloween party with him. As a date." Harper was quick to squeal, before turning red and murmuring a sorry when the boys looked over at the three of us confused. Seeing the three of us girls simply ignoring their curious gazes, the boys returned to their conversation while they continued eating their ice cream.
Seeing as the boys had lost interest, Harper continued with her interrogation on how Oliver had asked Sky out. How he had driven her home after hanging out one afternoon and asked her before walking her up to the door. It was.. sweet, but also shocking as to how many questions Harper had seemingly prepared to ask. Finally, I cleared my throat and half glared at Harper, hoping she would stop her pointless interrogation in light of a new conversation topic.
