A few days had passed since that horrid night. My mother had had glass bottles littering the entire walkway and floor throughout the living room. Everything was trashed, and there lay my mother, passed out on the couch, drunk, as though everything was fine.

After I had moved her to her room, I had cleaned everything up and made the house spotless once more. I finished my homework and everything was normal. Well, as normal as it could get with a alcoholic mother, I had thought bitterly.

Now it was Friday and I just wanted the week to be over. As much as I hated being home, I enjoyed the weekends as they were my time. Everything that had happened this week was starting to get to me and I just wanted everything to be over already. But, of course, I had one more day at school before I could relax.

So I got up and got ready for school. Harper came to pick me up and everything went normal. That is, until Biology. Oliver was my partner in this class so something had to happen.

Over the course of the week, Oliver and I had moved passed the acquaintance stage and into the early friend stage. I was still extremely quiet and preferred to do the class in silence, but Oliver hated not talking for more than a second so he filled up the silence. I was now used to his constant blabbering. Whether it be about Biology or another random topic, he talked. Constantly.

It was as though he didn't have an off button. There was no way to shut him up. So I gave up. I just ignored him, nodding when it seemed appropriate. His chatter was only silenced when the teacher called him out on it. But he quickly resumed in a whisper.

Luckily, when it came time to work, Oliver was great at it. He had like a switch that made him go from chatterbox to dedicated worker. I was fine with it though, as long as he actually did the work I didn't care what he did in his free time.

One of these conversations turned into something bigger though. I was writing notes when suddenly Oliver required my attention. He tapped me on the shoulder and then waited for me to finish writing. "Yes?"

"I was wondering if you wanted to sit at my table today? That way you could meet my friends and I could get to know you more." Oliver scratched the back of his neck while he said this. I had noticed it was a nervous tick of his. That's when my mind caught up with what he asked.

"Wait, what? You want me to sit at your table?"

"Uh, yes?" His answer was posed more as a question. My eyes widened. If I were to sit with them, it would basically put a target on my back. I would literally be the envy of every girl in the school. Especially the queen bee's. I wanted so badly to decline his offer, but the pleading, puppy dog look in his eyes had me considering it.

Sighing, I replied, "Can I at least ask my friend first? I don't want to force her to sit with you if she's uncomfortable with it." Oliver nodded quickly, "Of course!" I nodded in thanks and turned back to my notes. Oh lord, what have I gotten into?
