I walked through the halls of school quietly. My eyes flitted through the halls, searching for my best friend, Harper. Although I had been going to this school since freshmen year, I still had no more than one friend. Of course, being the nerdy, silent girl I am, I refused to talk anyone except for Harper.

Harper was my red-headed, blue-eyed best friend. She was taller than me and knew how to wear anything and look great. Literally. She could throw rags on and still look amazing. Freckles covered her skin. Her blue eyes were so blue that they looked like the sky above. All in all, my best friend was beautiful and could be the most popular girl in in school. Instead, she chose to stay with me.

Next to Harper, I looked like a shadow. My pale skin was lightly speckled with freckles. Black hair went down to my back, near my waist. My pale green eyes contrasted with the darkness of my hair. I chose to stay in the background whenever Harper would start talking with someone that I didn't know.

Harper would always try to get me to make more friends but I hated making friends. They never stayed long anyways, so why waste time to make them.

Soon enough, I spotted my red-headed friend. Of course, she had to be talking to some group of girls who all looked like they needed to buy clothes two sizes bigger. Especially, Melissa Roberts. Melissa Roberts, Queen Bee of our school, Sunny Side Private High School. Yeah, our school has an extremely long name. Luckily, it's next only like a thirty minute drive to the beach from school.

Yup, our school is located next to the beach in sunny California. Harper spends over half of her time outside school at my house. My house is situated right at the beach, on a sloped outlook point with rocks and everything. Sadly, before my parents divorced, we had a lot more money to spend. Our house was still a mansion, with all the luxuries and everything.

Harper loved our mansion, spent more time at our house than her own. Luckily, she already knew about my issues with my mother. My mother used to be the mother that everyone dreamed about having. Kind, sweet, loving, the perfect relationship with her husband, everything you've ever dreamed of, that was my mother. Vanessa Walter, loving mother and wife. Sadly, both of those traits disappeared when my father started having an affair with his secretary.

Once my mother found out, everything went down the drain. This all happened when I was twelve. Of course, the last thing my father did before he left was give us a life time supply of money to keep us going. Lucky for me, there was enough for me to go to a private high school. That's where I met Harper.

When I met Harper, I was going through a rough patch. My parents had just finalized their divorce and my father had left the house, leaving me and my mother alone. My mother, soon after the divorce, turned to alcohol and tended to leave me home alone more often then not.

Now, most of the time I was home alone and couldn't be bothered to invite anyone over. My parents had left me at one of the most critical stages of my life. They didn't deserve to know me, no one did, except Harper. Harper was the only one who cared enough to stay.

The bell rang, jerking me out of my thoughts. I then realized that I had somehow walked all the way to my locker and then opened it without registering it. Oh well. I grabbed my books and started my way to History, my first class of the day. Though, I already gave one history lesson today.
