The bell rang for lunch, finally. I think everyone in the class let out a sigh of relief or a whoop of joy. Of course, my math teacher, Mr.Parker, rolled his eyes at the enthusiasm over escaping class. Then again, he's probably happy to get rid of his students for an hour. Luckily, Harper and I's lockers are right beside each others so we meet each other there before lunch.

I scurried to my locker, hoping to avoid everyone. Sadly, my wish wasn't fulfilled when I ran into a kid. Letting out a yelp, I jumped backwards, avoiding eye contact with the person. Mumbling out a 'sorry,' I quickly continued on my way to my locker. Harper was already there as usual and had a bright smile upon her face.

"Hi!" Harper chirped excitedly. I gave her a look that screamed, 'spill.' Her eyes brightened as she went on to tell me about this cute kid in her third period. I rolled my eyes without her noticing but kept a small smile on my face. Although I don't believe in love, doesn't mean I have to doubt it for my friend. No, I don't think she'll find true love but I do believe she'll find someone to love.

Harper is one of 'those' girls. Not the mean girls you see in all those high school romance movies, one of the girls that everyone looks up to and wants to be. If she wasn't friends with me since freshmen year, she would probably be the queen of Sunny Side High, no joke. She literally knows over half the school by name and could get about every guy at the school with a bat of her eyelashes. But, she doesn't.

Nope, Harper is not one of those girls who would ditch their best friend for popularity. She turns down people asking her to sit with them for me, her nerdy, shy best friend. Well, I wouldn't say I'm shy, but I'm most definitely not the most outgoing person in the world. If people actually took the time to get to know me, which nobody except Harper has, they would realize that I'm someone with a lot of scars and a lot of sarcasm.

I use sarcasm as a form of defense from insults and downgrades. Although I don't get them often, I still get them. The only reason being, I'm best friends with the girl everyone wants to be friends with. Of course, Harper knows that they only want her for her popularity, so she sticks with me. We eat at a corner table in the cafeteria, and in any classes we have together, which aren't many, we sit in the back corners, away from prying eyes.

Harper knows how I feel about social interactions and listens to my pleads. I don't ask for much, but I do ask that we stay out of the spotlight. Harper can keep the limelight to herself and knows to direct all attention to herself rather than me. Of course, that doesn't make her conceited, it just makes her more helpful. I don't like the spotlight and she's okay with it. Win-win. Most people don't see it like that though.

I was knocked out my thoughts by my best friend flicking me on on the forehead. Yelping slightly, I rubbed the now stinging bump and glared at her. She simply shrugged and started walking to our normal table. People came up to her along the way to ask her questions and to tell her to sit with them. I bypassed the attention and sat down in my seat and waited for the 'paparazzi' to let her go.

Five minutes later, Harper appears with a strained look. I simply laugh at her expression and we fall into an easy conversation. Guys come up at random times to ask her something, only to get close to her. The guys of this school liked to place bets on who could get her to go on a date with them first. Lucky for them, Harper isn't looking for a boyfriend currently, still getting over her summer break-up.

Over the summer, Harper had gotten into a relationship with a guy named Johnny. Johnny was a nice guy, super cool and really funny. Low and behold, he had cheated on her on the last week of break before telling her he was moving. Harper was heart broken that one of her only boyfriends had first cheated on her, then moved to a different state.

I, of course, had called the guy a few days after and yelled at him profusely. When I told Harper this, she had laughed and then had a crying session over him. I was there for it and I bought her ice cream and binge watched romance movies. Through all of it, Harper and I had been together.

Even now, in our senior year of high school, we were still best friends. I knew it wasn't going to change anytime soon. The bell rang, signaling our time together had ended. We walked to our lockers and then went our separate ways.
