As the weeks passed, Harper and I continued to sit with the 'Golden Boys' of the school. Of course, we weren't the only girls there. Melissa Roberts and her cheer squad - who are really just her minions - were always there along with the rest of the football team. Another girl had joined the table as well; Skylar. She was invited by Oliver, and already we all could see that Oliver had a thing for her.
During lunches, Skylar would mainly talk to Oliver and sometimes us girls. She and Harper got along fairly well. I was okay with her, not planning on making any new BFF's anytime soon. Melissa tended to try to pick on Skylar for her shyness, but Oliver was quick to put a stop to that.
Today, Harper and I were walking to lunch when Skylar approached us. Harper, being the good friend she was, spoke first, "Hey, Skylar! Need anything?" Skylar shook her head and responded quietly, "I was just wondering if I could walk with you guys to lunch? I-it's okay to say no, I swear-" Harper cut her off mid-sentence. "Of course! We're going to the same table anyways. Come on!"
Skylar smiled at Harper's energy and looked at me, searching my face for signs of approval. I gave her a slight nod and small smile. Her features brightened. Together, the three of us continued to the cafeteria.
As the three of us entered the cafeteria, several people looked up - probably hoping to see one of their own friends. Harper led our little group to the guys' table and sat down with Skylar and I following suit. Skylar sat on the opposite side by Oliver and Harper and I sat on one side with Hunter. Logan was across from Harper and Hunter was on my left.
Oliver was quick to start a conversation with Skylar and Harper. Hunter was on his phone and Logan was quiet. A soft groan of annoyance came from my best friend, causing my attention to shift towards her. I gave her a confused look. Seeing my face, she answered my silent question, "I forgot to take notes in History, and there's a test I need to study for coming up. Ugh, I'm so stupid." The last part of her sentence came out quieter than the rest.
Sadly, I couldn't help her with her dilemma as I wasn't in her class. Before I could even open my mouth to speak, someone beat me to it. "Here, take mine." Logan's deep voice reverberated throughout the table, surprising all of the girls and a few of the lower class men. Harper was quick to thank him and put Logan's notes inside her bag. Of course, I didn't miss the slight blush that decorated her face when he handed the notes to her.
I nudged her with my elbow until I caught her attention, giving her a look. She nodded, understanding what I had been saying with my eyes. Yup, she knows me well enough to talk without speaking. Of course, half the time she misunderstood what I was trying to say, but she gets an A for effort.
Soon enough, the bell rang, sending everyone out of the cafeteria and back into their classes. I stood up and started walking towards my next class with Harper. My next class was English, one of my least favorites. I enjoyed reading, but writing was not my forte. Luckily, I only had two periods until my favorite class: Art. With that in mind, I walked into my English classroom.
