In the cosmos on the far edge of the Peleg system a new star appeared. Around it night's blanket rippled and shimmered.
White and silent, it grew, expanding from a pin-prick in the ether to a shimmering blue-white disc, infinitely thin.
The fantastic energy required to sustain the wormhole arced and writhed around the disc's rim, discharging from the event horizon into the vacuum of space.
The storm settled. The portal stabilised.
Something came through.
