Quite The Pair

Dr. Flug and I began to work on the list of things that Black Hat gave us. Fortunately for us, I had already made many of these previously, and I used my duplicate ray to make a double of each.

"So Y/N, what made you want to become an inventor?"

"Well, I've always been the creative type. I loved using my abilities to make things no one else would have ever thought of. And besides, I could use it on those who have wronged me."

"Do you have an example."

"Yes, but it requires a backstory. I was in a school until 5th grade, when my parents took me out to be homeschooled so I could learn at a faster pace. We also think the school was going to kick me out anyway. From then on I was homeschooled and moved up multiple grade levels. Anyways, one time in 3rd grade, I was bullied because for 'bring your pet day', I brought a robot dog I had made. He could listen to commands and follow them. I thought it was so cool, but others made fun because I didn't have an actual animal to bring in. So that night, I stayed up and made an army of snakes, my dad's idea, and released them into the school. Now that was fun."

"Woah. That's so cool! I was bullied in school as well, but I was never bold enough to speak up about it, much less do anything like that."

"What can I say, I've got guts."

We were now at the bottom of the list, and we realized we didn't have enough parts.

"Oh shoot. Well, there's a store down the street that we can get parts from. And since it's getting later, d-do you want to g-get dinner somewhere?"

"Sure! Let's go tell Black Hat."

We went to Black Hat's office and Dr. Flug knocked on the door.

"Come in. Oh, are my inventions done yet."

"W-well not exactaly. We need p-parts for one of the f-final ones."

"We'll then go get them! And use your own money. Don't be out for more than two hours though, I need those inventions done by sundown today."

"Y-yes sir!"

Dr. Flug closed the door and then we went to the store. There was barely anyone in the store, and it had all the parts we needed.

"Now that we've got the parts, there's a cafe another ways down the street. We could go there if you want."

"Sure thing. And since you payed for the items, I'm paying for our food."

"No, I can't let y-"

"I am paying. No questions."

"Fine..."

We entered the cafe and sat down at a table. A waiter came over to us.

"Welcome to the cafe. What can I get the lovely couple?"

Dr. Flug blushed deep red and began fumbling his words.

I decided to speak up, because I didn't think anything of it, "We're not together. We're coworkers. I'll take a BLT, and he'll have a caesar salad."

"Ok then. I'll have that out soon."

The waiter went behind the counter, and Flug finally calmed down. We talked about our lives as we waited for food, and we had a lot in common. He wasn't really 'evil' per say, he just doesn't want to be a hero.

The food came out, and we ate, continuing our conversation. After we finished, I went up to the counter to pay, and Dr. Flug stood behind me. The guy working the cash register was the waiter from earlier.

"Alright, your meal totals to $20."

I payed in cash and was about to walk away until the waiter grabbed my arm.

"Well since you two aren't together, I better shoot my shot. How about you and I have a little fun and go-."

I slapped him across the face. "Don't you dare ever talk to a woman that way again."

The waiter chuckled, "fiesty, just how I like-"

I was so enraged, that I climbed on top of him, knocking him down, and wrapped my arms around his throat, choking him.

"You're lucky I keeping you alive right now. If I wanted to, I could tear out your voice box so you could never speak to anyone in that way again. I'm letting you go with a black eye because I have some decency."

I stood up, brushed my hands off, grabbed Dr. Flug's hand, and walked out.

I forgot to mention, I have a slight anger problem.

"Y/N, what you did back there was incredible! I would've stepped in but I didn't know what to say and I figured you had it handled and i-"

"Flug. Listen to me. You don't need to ramble and apologize with me. I mean hey, you could've left, but you stayed. I know you've got my back, and I've got yours."

We smiled at eachother and walked home. We finished the inventions and gave them to Black Hat, who said he was more impressed than he had ever been.

I helped Dr. Flug clean up the lab and went to bed. I was only asleep for a few hours, when I woke up to a bright light.

I opened my door to see the light was coming from the lab. I went down the hallway and peeked in.

Dr. Flug was on his laptop, looking at what seemed to be multiple articles.

I must've been leaning on the door too much because the door opened and he turned his head, quickly closing his laptop.

"Why are you still up?"

"I c-could ask th-the same about y-you!"

"I woke up because of the light from here."

"Oh my gosh I am so sorry-"

"It's ok. You should really go to bed too, you'll need sleep for whatever tomorrow brings, I'm sure."

"W-whatever you say Y/N."

I began to walk out, "night Flug."

"Goodnight Y/N, I lo-"

We both stopped.

"Did you say something?"

"N-NO NOTHING AT- AT ALL."

"Ok then..." I was about to fall asleep on the floor but I managed to make it to my room and close the door.
