On the outskirts of Berlin stood a quaint little house with three inhabitants and a whole lot of apple trees surrounding it. There lived two gentlemen who oddly never seemed to age, and you, a little girl aged eight.

The three of you originally lived in a hilly region in Konigsberg, but later moved to Berlin for better prospects. You, at the time a six year old  orphan, lived by yourself in a small hut near the residence of the two gentlemen.

You never knew them, but you would steal apples from their orchard as you didn't have any food and you didn't know what was safe to eat and what wasn't. Only after you were caught by the shorter, silver haired gentleman named Gilbert, your interactions with them increased.

They expressed their worry regarding you, an orphan living all alone, and invited you to stay with them. Gilbert remarked,

"It would liven up our house to have a young child!"

And so you did, and it was splendid. You got to eat all the apples you wanted and eat the delicious food that the younger gentleman, Ludwig, cooked. It was so much better than living all by yourself and struggling to survive.

The gentlemen, brothers, doted on you and loved you dearly, almost as good as good as your parents. They pampered and disciplined you and taught you many things. You loved them very much too and you couldn't ever be apart from them, and they became your family, your big brothers.

The move to Berlin happened when you turned eight, and while you were sad that you had to leave the hills and apple trees, you were just willing to go wherever your big brothers went. Thankfully for you, you got to stay in a quiet little house with them surrounded by your favourite apple trees, so you were happy about it.

The days in Berlin were happy until Gilbert suddenly got sick. It started with a simple nausea and a headache, but as the days went on, he grew more frail and sick, and it seemed that his mysterious sickness was incurable.

He was eventually bedridden.

"Bruder," you came into Gilbert's room one fine day with a tray of soup and a big smile to cheer him up, "I brought you something to eat,"

Gilbert was looking out the window at the fields bathed in sunlight, and turned his face to you as you moved close to his bed. His face and body had grown thin, and his cheeks had sunken in slightly.

His face lit up upon seeing you.

"What did Luddy make?" he slowly sat up.

"Kartoffelsuppe!" you exclaimed happily, placing the tray on his lap. It was Gilbert's favourite potato soup topped with some bratwurst.
