                               CHAPTER 8

11:03

There I stood on top of the bed of my older brother, I could feel my breathing, it was going at a normal slow speed like how it normally should be, my heart was thumping at a great slow velocity, and my legs weren't shaking, good I was calm, for the moment.

Just before us merely stood both me and my older brother who was just lying there in his bed.

I see you couldn't sleep either, said Koichi looking right at me with those open eyes.

The sounds of crickets and cicada's still sounded noisily outside my dormitory.

My brother who I was just planning on asking if he know where my friend had just ran off to was laying there wide awake as I was just a moment ago, he sat up from his bed and turned to look at me, 'you must have been thinking about some things haven't you, he asked placing his hand on his side, I nodded my head, did he know about my current suspicion on him' he then smiled a little.

' believe me I know how sweet a lady like Yumi can be, but if I was to give you on some advice brother, you would probably be better off with her just being a simple friend for you, she is from what I heard way too busy to deal with men like us.

My eyes slightly widen at this, how did he know, I thought to myself, was I that obvious, but now wasn't the time to think on that at all, now was the time for a completely different topic.

He thinks that this is based on whatever weird feeling I am experiencing now but that is far from it, and while it was somewhat charming his teasing is the last thing I should worry for.

Breaking the ice I first rub my arm slightly to show my concern, ' no it's not that, this is something different entirely, they were sort of the reason I wanted to wait until now to talk to you when we were alone, he now looked at me with a curious expression.

Actually, I wanted to talk to you about Gwess.

His face turned to a confused frown.

What about her, he asked.

Okay now was the question I have been wanting to ask since I had gotten here, better be ready for this because I didn't know what I was getting myself into, I knew that I was just expressing my concern, however it really can be justifiable when you look at it in a certain way, I must know what is going on in situations like this just to be sure they're isn't anything wrong happening with either of them, in case there was any that I could prevent it.

I felt like if I was on a weird interrogation scene, where the detective was now waiting for his suspect to tell his side of the story in where he explains where all the missing evidence was taken, I sat by my brother patting his shoulder softly indicating that he could trust me to be told anything that needed to be said and that I would be here for him in that time and moment.

Eventually after a while, he spoke up' just a few moments ago, I saw both you and Gwess talking together during the table match, she looked really upset and I thought something may have happened that she couldn't talk about, I said with slow and formal speech.

Koichi now looked at me surprised, then glanced the other way in shame, ' you saw all of that huh,' so something did happen.

Did you two talk about something that might have made her want to leave, I asked concerned.

He then met my eyes again, ' sit by me, this may take some explaining.

I nodded understandingly and sat right next to his side, waiting for the talk I was waiting for.

He looked down from his bed, glancing by me to the door room, ' a week ago yesterday before you and I went to school and you got that invite, she went up to me right as I was heading out to go and see if the newspaper stand was open to get the morning paper that day, then right before me, I ran up against her, she was just standing there waiting by the sidewalk for me, he looked at, a small smile appeared on his face, ' she was just there looking all happy and stuff, like always.

When she spotted me she waved her hand in a playful manner and with a positive shake, ' Koichi, my dear old friend, how are you doing, watching her there, I got out of my surprise state and waved at her back, ' Gwess, it is a surprise to meet you here, how are you doing', he coughed slightly in his hand, he turns his head down, looking at it for a second, ' sorry nasty cough,' where was i.

She and I spoke for about a minute, then she decided to invite me over to eat at a nice restaurant, and by reluctance I agreed to the offer seeing how I had time before before the newspaper stand closes, she grabs me by her arm and pulled me all the way across the town block and gets me to the food place in a jiff, and as if the skies were watching me, that day they were serving pasta and bread sticks so with that offer I couldn't resist and say no, so I decided to stay for at least five minutes at best, she took her seat and I took mine, we were both just happy to be there the two of us,' the inside I must tell you was beautiful, it had almost everything that you would expect to see in one of those places, a beautiful pink curtain covering the windows, nice white tablecloth for the tables, very fancy looking utensil to use and even the menu's had a very nice spark added in them, Gwess said that since I was technically her guest, she would be taking the order for me, so she looked around to see if we could get any table service and when she looked over to the waiter however I noted that she briefly frowned for a moment, I probably wouldn't have taken too much note on it if I hadn't noticed her eyebrows quirk in to sad expression, when she turned and looked at me however she immediately brought it back on, ' looks like this place is as busy as you would expect, seems like we will be here for a while won't we, I couldn't deny that, I mindlessly gave her a smile and just responded with a, ' sure is'.

He rubbed his eyes tiredly, ' oh how dumb was I to not notice the signs she kept giving me, he looked at me with a sad look, ' have you noticed the way how she will just look out into space whenever she wasn't talking to any of us, he asked.

I was surprised by this question, I shook my head, stating I didn't notice anything about her attitude that would have caught my slightest attention.

He merely chuckles weakly at the response, ' man who ever did, I can't blame you for not noticing, after all who could notice at that day when everything would change. When the waiter came we took our order, I ordered spaghetti, she ordered lobster, we both sat down and we both talked for a great minute, there was nothing that stopped us both from just being there, I was having fun she was having fun, then she told me, he looked up at me both his eyes expressing sorrow, ' Brother, Gwess never did tell us about what happened to her family before she moved here, he remarked.

I was surprised by the turn in this conversation, ' what did Gwess say, I thought out load.

He looked down to the ground for a moment, ' Apparently her father had gained an inheritance that was given to her by his father who died in battle long ago, he was only fifty five at the time, apparently they were close to him, so they were in mourning, when Gwess was twelve she would learn about where she had originally been born from, but was never told until the proper age had come, when the day she found out she had no way to think about the sudden revelation, so when they gave her the adjustment paper she had ultimately made a decision already to leave and move back to her hometown,' I was shocked upon hearing this, Gwess had made the decision already, but then why didn't she just told anyone about it, it would have made more sense then just keeping it hidden from me for this long, ' wait I said, ' where is she now then', if this was going where I think it was going then I had no idea how to feel, my brother now smiled sadly at me, ' you know the last thing she said to me today was that she always thought you would be able to beat her in one of her own games.

Where did she go, Koichi, I asked again seriously, I had to know, for I already feared the answer that I would receive.

Koichi sighed, and looked at me in the face with sadness, ' She left, She never told me where she would move to' she's just gone.

Suddenly it felt like for some reason someone from my life had just left the picture.
