MATILDA! CHAPTER FIVE:

The next morning, Liz was woken up by Sheriff Peterkin at her door looking for JJ. She told her she just wanted to talk, so JJ and her went outside to talk while Liz watched secretly. She knew how much the police bothered JJ and was hoping JJ would keep to himself. She new Peterkin was the kindest sheriff, so she'd take it easy on JJ. "What happened last night?" Her mother asked

"We we're having a Kegger, than JJ was just trying to give Sarah a drink—"

"Sarah Cameron?" Her mother questioned

"Yes. Topper kept interrupting and like trying to be all tuff and shit, than Tommy came over and started a fight and, John B tried to fight him instead of letting JJ, than Topper was drowning John B... so JJ grabbed his gun and only threatened to shoot Topper, JJs not thay crazy to shoot someone" Liz explained

"Wait where did JJ find this gun?"

"Okay we found the Grady White in the marsh... and John B found a motel key so when the guard office wasn't talking to us we just went there and found a bunch of shit, and I didn't even know JJ took the gun till we were in the boat" Liz sighed "but I don't know mom, this seems like super shady, Scooter Grubs couldn't afford a Grady White in a million years" 

"Yeah, that is weird" her mom trailed off and gained this look on her face "it seems like something he'd..." her mother stopped herself before looking up at Liz

"Something who'd do?" Liz asked before the door swung open and JJ and Peterkin came in

"I want you kids to stay off the marsh" Peterkin said "it's for your own good... just looking out for ya"

"Thanks Peterkin" Liz smiled and Peterkin nodded before making her way out.

The mood was a little weird with everyone. Liz sat next to Kiara who was playing the bongos and Liz had a ukulele, slowly strumming it. "Look, I'm calling it off. all right?" John B said "Peterkin said that if We stay out of the marsh she'll help me with DCS"

"And you believed her?" JJ asked

"Yes I believe her JJ" John B shot back

"An actual cop John B, you believed a cop" JJ said in disbelief

"It doesn't help your ass that was shooting the gun" John b told him

"You know what I should've done? Just let Topper drown your ass"

"Topper was gonna drown me?" John B questioned

"Sure looked like it" Liz added, looking up to receive a sarcastic smile from John B

"Funny"

"Have you looked in a mirror?"

"Come on, tell me some more"

"They always win, don't they man? Kooks VS pogues. They always, always win!"

"It's okay!" Kie said

"No it's not okay!" JJ exclaimed "it is not! They don't want us to go down into the marsh... That means. There's something valuable and down there and you know it. I know you do." JJ looked to Pope "And I understand why you don't wanna go, your the golden boy, you go to much to risk"

"And you—I mean, your already rich as fuck anyway, why would you bother?" He said towards Kie

"You, Buffy and me man, we got nothin to lose! We really don't all right?"

"JJ" John B muttered

"And I know, it didn't used to be that way for you"

"I don't wanna talk about this. I don't wanna talk about it"
