Chapter 18: Place to Stay

This chapter is told by the POV of Antonio

Another one?! How many of us are thhere?! I just stare at Madeline until she stands up and looks around at us

"So, you all have powers?" She asks looking everybody over

"No" Milton says pointing to Devin and me "Just us three"

"Oh really? That seems hard to believe, I do research online trying to find out about this or find someone like me but can't find a single thing then three of them show up on my door? Sorry to be skeptical, but I'd like you to prove it" she says then walks to the door "But let's take this outside just in case" We go outside and go around to the backyard, its huge and it stretches out to where the crops begin

"Guess I'm first" Milton says stepping up, he puts his hands out infront of him and closes his eyes "Watch this!!" He shouts then lets loose a small tiny fireball that falls to the ground and burns out immediately

"That was cute" Madeline says teasingly

"I'm just tired from blowing up cops. Devin steps up behind him and smacks him in the back of the head again

"Idiot" he says then pushes him out of the way "This is how it's done" He steps forward and holds one arm out infront of him. He closes his eyes and clenches his hand and tight as he can. Electricity starts to form around his arm and he opens his hand with his fingers still tightly closed. He spins and swings his arm sending electricity shooting from it in a curved arc. The electricity smashes into a tree and cuts it clean in half

"Show off" Milton mutters under his breath

"Wow! That was amazing!" Oliver shouts from behind us. I didn't even know he was there

"Your turn buddy" Devin says stepping aside so I can show Madeline my power. I sit on the ground and cross my legs

"Mine isn't as good as theirs but I can atleast do something" I say then put both hands on the ground. I push down on the ground and my hands go inside. I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing but I have an idea of what to try. I lift my arms up and focus on the ground below me. As I raise my hands a small ball of dirt and grass rises with it. This is not what I had in mind. I stand up and let the dirt fall back to the ground then look over at Madeline who does not look impressed

"You did good" Desmond says putting a hand on my shoulder. I shake it off and go inside. Everybody probably thinks I'm a joke now

"Hey Antonio, how'd it go?" Steven says still sitting next to Beth and unconscious Kelly. I still feel so bad that I couldn't stop this from happening. I lay down on the couch by them and doze off. I dream off the panther man and him slicing my neck open. I bleed then when I touch my neck it's gone. I reach out and begin choking him. He laughs and laughs then disappears. He reappears behind me holding Kelly in his right arm. He takes his left arm and shoves it through her stomach. I wake up screaming and sit up fast

"Woah, woah!! It's alright! It was only a dream" Devin says and grabs my shoulders. I look around and see all of my friends sitting around on the floor

"Damn dude, are you ok?!" Mike asks worried. I look at him and nod

"We were just wrapping up a discussion about you staying here"I Madeline's dad says "You all can stay for the winter if you help me with the crops early in the spring"

"This man in a doctor and can help Kelly" Devin says sitting on the arm of the couch

"Yes, and she is going to be fine. I'll take good care of her. Her room is upstairs to the left, shes there now" Madeline's dad says then points to the stairs

"Thank you so much" I say and shake his hand. I head upstairs and go into Kelly's room. She looks so peaceful sleeping there. I look at her and begin to tear up. I pull a chair up to her bed and sit there holding her hand until I fall asleep.
