POV - Nikei
I woke up the next morning feeling quite well. Much better, actually. I waited for Monocrow to finish his morning announcement before hopping out of bed, the sun rising within seconds, and walked off to the restaurant for breakfast.
I sat down and ate. Soon the others joined me, and the restaurant became abuzz with light conversation.
Breakfast ended without incident, and many of the other students gradually left to entertain themselves for the day. Mikado didn't leave.
The only person missing was Shinji.
However, as I sipped my coffee, Hibiki walked into the restaurant. She seems to be calling out for someone.
"Sister?" the Ultimate Anthropologist called. "Sister, where are you?"
I turned to see Hibiki standing there.
"Hibiki?" I gasped. "What are you doing out here?"
"I'm looking for Kanade," Hibiki replied, looking a little worried. "She disappeared during the blackout. I'm not sure where she went. Have any of you seen sister?"
I then shook his head. "No, I didn't see her."
"I need to find sister quick!" Hibiki gasped. "I think something might've happened to her!" She then ran outside it.
However, I was feeling concerned for Kanade. I felt like I should join the search for her. So, I and Mikado followed Hibiki.
"Where's sister?!" Hibiki shouted as she and the search party entered the indoor pool.
We headed into the changing room...
...Oh, no... No... God, why?! No!
We stood in the doorway, frozen by what we saw.
Shinji Kasai was on the ground, lying prone in a thick puddle of blood, his jacket ripped off from its rightful place. And that rightful place was pressed on the floor.
His eyes were closed, and he looked so peaceful, almost like he was just in a serene sleep.
Kanade Otonokoji was lying across from him.
She was on her back, and she was also in a large pool of blood.
Her eyes were open, unlike Shinji's.
Blood soaked both of their hair and dripped down their faces.
This wasn't supposed to happen... this wasn't supposed to happen...!
My vision swam and darkened. I felt drool begin to pool in my mouth, and I struggled not to vomit at the sight. Images began to flash in my mind, of my friends, of all the good times we spent together... they mostly focused on two of them.
Mikado screamed behind me, snapping me back to reality. No matter how harsh or cruel it was, it was a reality I now had to face.
The killing game had begun again, and it was worse than ever before.
