You slowly opened your eyes, your eyesight quickly flooded by the hospital lights as you blinked, as you squeezed your throat from the blistering sensation emboldening as you violently coughed up the green rose petals scattered on the floor, several needles embedded into your body.

You turn to your side as the door opens, revealing nurses with clipboards rushing to you and immediately running through tests. "...It's been a week, and you aren't going to make it not until you tell us."

As you exhaled and gripped the sheets with your hands, you looked down at your hands and coughed once more. "There's no point...He likes someone else." You coughed and covered your mouth when you saw the blood-splattered flower petals as the nurse carefully placed you onto the bed to assist you to relax.

"It's that boy with green eyes, isn't it?"

"...Yes." You scowled as you extended one arm and covered your eyes with it as your body began to tremble. "I am a...childhood best friend, and I have fallen in love with him through the years, while he is looking at someone else. Isn't that an ironic story...?"

The nurses shook their heads and began to worry at your confession as they exchanged glances with one another. "You know we can ask the boy if—"

"...No!" You exclaimed as you got up from your seat after coughing, "I- I don't need him...! I-"

"Yes. Yes, you do." The doctor says as you glanced up at her, "My colleague stated that he had never dealt with your situation before but had just heard of it and advised me to consult with you."

"...I don't want a pittance love..." You grumbled as tears began to form in your eyes. "Then what? I like that nitwit, and he also likes one of my closest friends. If he knows I like him, he'll only like me once he realizes I'm on the brink of death." The doctor's shoulders sagged as she clasped your shoulders, causing your eyes to widen. "That's not true!"

"W-What?"

"T-That boy you were mentioning, he left a few hours ago before you woke up... He's been taking care of you ever since you were unconscious." Your pupils dilated as you shook your head in denial. "No- no...you're lying."

"Hey, Y/n," Yuichiro says, gazing down at his feet and frowning as he clutched the arrangement of flowers before his arm fell as he laid the bouquet down and grasping your hand tightly, he knew how much you meant to him as someone who's grown fond of him as a friend from childhood that he's never bothered to speak about things you'd want or someone you love.

All he could think about was his lovesickness for someone and never cared to regard you as someone he'd admired and loved until now.

"Who...do you like? I'm asking now of all days, that's so fucking stupid of me." He speaks while donning a miserable expression, his lovely emerald eyes getting glossy as tears stream down his cheeks as he caresses your face. "Please...don't leave me."

"I'm sorry for being oblivious to everything we've ever done just please don't leave me here."

"He...likes Shinoa, that much is certain. I...I'm nothing more, so just let me die. I know there's more to life than that, but in this case, I don't believe I can say that while I'm on the edge of my death myself." The floods of sadness that were streaming down your face as you grieved made your shoulders shiver.

Another day was for Yuichiro to visit as he scribbled his name on the clipboard, with the aroma of blood, alcohol, and such remaining in the air as he held the brown paper bag in his hand as his hair bounced as he went through the blue hospital halls, he stares at the screen of your room seeing your figure sit up straight as his eyes widen at the sight.

You were finally awake after being comatose for a week and being cared for by Yuichiro. He storms in, dropping his paper bag, and everyone in the room, including you, turned to look at him as he stood there in bafflement. "Y-Y/n...?"

"...Yuu."

His eyes glistened as he gently approached you in complete shock, lifting a hand and placing it behind your head as he held you with your head buried in his shoulder. "Y-You're okay... you're okay!" He warmly held you as you reluctantly reciprocated his gesture, and he nodded in dismay.

"Yeah...I'm okay."

"We'll leave you some time alone." The doctor says, after she and the nurses left the room, Yuichiro slowly withdrew and kept his sorrowful eyes glued to you. "...You didn't tell them. Did you?"

"Tell them...what exactly?"

"Don't play dumb with me. You know exactly what I'm talking about." He sneered, "If it's so easy for you to tell them, why can't you tell me?" You remained mute for a moment as you looked up at him and shook your head, feeling dejected about your condition, as you coughed up the green rose petals again as he intently inspected them.

He stares at the scattered rose petals, seeing the distinctive color of his eyes, almost in a moment of realization as he stared you squarely in the eye as he lifted your chin, nearly forcing you to look at him.

"It's me, isn't it?"

He pressed his forehead on yours, softly warming your cheeks while you struggled to get away. You shook your head in denial. He shook his head and chuckled forlornly. "Gosh, I'm really oblivious. Aren't I? My childhood friend fell for someone as stupid as me."

"I'm... so sorry for not realizing sooner."

"You're kind of stupid in reality, that's why I stuck with you longer." You trailed your fingers up your throat as your eyes widen, no more searing sensation riling bothering your esophagus, no more asthma episodes or coughing as you struck your chest a bit as you gazed at Yuichiro in befuddlement.

"Wait... you're-" He nods in reply with a small smile as he laughed, "Yeah yeah, I guess I'm a bit late."

"Better late than never as they say."
