The air outside had cooled significantly, leaving Violet to shiver at the sudden chill. As if subconsciously, Jack put an arm around her shoulder and pulled her in close. Automatically she threw her arm around his waist, the movements stabilizing them both as they walked the few blocks home.

"Thanks again for coming out tonight, having you there always makes everything more fun."

"Well, I had to make sure that angelic little bitch didn't ruin Halloween for you." Violet wondered if it was sheer luck that she'd happened upon that scene the moment she'd arrived.

"Hah, oh yeah- I forgot about that..." He chuckled... remembering how violently Violet had shoulder-checked her.

"Is she... an ex?" She didn't want to make assumptions, but from him muttering her name and then hearing him state that they weren't going to get back together had her putting two and two together. She just wasn't sure of the timeline.

"Uh, yeah... I um, dumped her over a year ago, but she won't let it go."

"What-what happened?" She usually wasn't so nosy, but she was ridiculously drunk and couldn't filter out which tabs would be doing the talking for the rest of the night.

"Ah- um I don't know," He cleared his throat as he thought of how to answer. "It was just doomed from the start, she wasn't an easy person to love- especially since I was kind of her punching bag." He chuckled sheepishly, trying to shrug it off and distract from how uncomfortable the admittance was. "But, I was stupid and stayed... until I caught her cheating and grabbed what I could and dipped. Got a new place in a new town and everything." He shrugged, the conversation sobering him much too quickly. " Christian really helped me through it and then I met Seán not too long after that and then everyone else, so kind of a huge blessing in disguise." He chuckled, trying to keep the mood light.

"She-?" Violet was still stuck on what Emily had done to him. Some type of unbridled rage she knew didn't stem from the alcohol had her chest burning as a myriad of images flashed through her brain of what she now wanted to do to the fucking angel. How could anyone do something like that to him? "I'm um, I'm glad you got out. You deserve better." Someone who could be better for him, treat him better...

"I don't know about that..." He laughed, remembering all her reasoning for the mistreatment in their relationship.

"I do." She murmured insistently, resolute in what she said and how she felt.

"Well, that's a lonely road you'll be walkin' with that opinion." He laughed as he pressed the button on the elevator of their building.

"I think your friends would disagree." She wished he could see what she did; what his friends clearly did at least.

"Maybe..." He mused to himself, wondering what the rest of them had thought of Violet as they exited on their floor. He'd only briefly mentioned small things about her every now and again, so most of them didn't know the intricacies of the relationship but he knew they could tell how he felt. Karl and Tina had even given him very unsolicited advice on it already.

"Whatever. I know what I'm about."

"I thought you were all about chaos and danger tonight?" He joked lightly, smirking at her as they approached their door.

"Ooooh like that song!" She drunkenly remembered the absolute banger from earlier. How had the lyrics gone? "Choke me like you choke me like you choke me... choke me in the pantry..." All she really remembered was how similar the singer's voice had been to Jack's. She heard a nearly hysterical laughter erupt from behind her, stopping her from letting her imagination run wild again. She looked back as she pulled out her keys to unlock the front door. He was doubled over laughing, hands on his knees to stabilize himself. "Jack? You good?" Violet couldn't help but laugh too. She'd never seen him in such a good mood for so long, it was so nice to see him happy again, even though she wished they could both be. He just put a finger up, asking for a moment to compose himself. He stood back up and caught his breath, placing a hand on his chest.
