The current occupants of Malfoy Manor were sat in the dining room taking breakfast when a house-elf popped in to give Lucius the days edition of the Daily Prophet. He couldn't help but notice how Callie's eyes were drawn to the paper nor could he help that he noticed the malicious smile accompanying her gaze. Draco seemed to notice what had captured his friends attention and realization dawned upon his face.

Curious as to why the two children had those particular expressions, Lucius opened the paper and it took every ounce of his self-control for him to not show his initial reaction to the headline. He read the entire article rather quickly and when he had finished he looked directly at Callie. He noticed that she seemed rather pleased with herself. So it wasnt an accident that she had met with ms Skeeter, she had planned the whole thing. He would bet all of the Malfoy fortune that there wasnt a single word that Callie didnt authorise beforehand. Since he knew what kind of articles usually came from the woman, he wanted to know what Callie did in order to get her to cooperate so successfully.

Lucius knew that the article had an importance, he just couldnt figure out what it was. He knew that Calliope would have had a reason for speaking to the publication and he desperately wanted to know what the reason was. He was fascinated by the young witch who was currently residing in his home and he had no problems admitting to that fact. The witch in question behaved like a rising Dark Lady.

People who didnt know what it took to become one would say that the child was just your average slytherin but Lucius knew better. She was gathering her people, spreading her beliefs and from what he could see, she had established her position of power. Those were the base steps into becoming a Dark Lord/Lady and he had to admit that he was impressed with the fact that the girl had already achieved these. It was usually people with more experience behind them as they had seen the things they wanted to change and they had had years to spread what they truly believe.

Lucius couldn't believe that he was able to witness her rise with his own two eyes. The biggest thing that made him realise all of these things were the looks on the faces of her friends on the day of her birth. He had seen very similar looks before on the faces of the inner circle of Death Eaters. You see, they weren't looks of temporary interest or greed, they were looks of pure devotion and this fact terrified him as much as it excited him. It was fascinating because he got to actually witness everything but it terrified him because he believed his son had chosen who he would stand by and he didn't think it was the same person who he had devoted his life to previously.

He first started to think of this weeks ago but it was only a fortnight ago where the thought truly terrified him. This was because his mark hard darkened to the point it was as black as the day he first received it. This meant only one thing, his Lord had returned. At first he couldn't do anything but stare. It had been 10 years since he had any sign that his Lord was still alive and he had begun to lose hope, despite his Lord telling him that he couldn't truly die. After all this time, it seemed to everyone that hope was lost entirely for the Dark Side but now, the hope was surging through him from his head to his toes. He was ecstatic, the ideals that he believed in could once again be fought for. However, his hope hadn't lasted for long.

It was lunch time on the same day his mark had darkened when he looked across the table at Calliope and realised that she was the reason his Lord had been defeated in the first place. He had never forgotten who Calliope Potter was but she was so different from what he expected that he had forgotten what she had done and who she had done it to.

It was with this realization that he noticed his son had chosen his side and it wasnt the side he was on. It was this that frightened him because he noticed that he actually had a chance of losing his son and that was something he never wanted. No matter how much he wished, he would never force Draco to follow in his footsteps as his Lord would never mark anyone unwillingly. Despite what others tended to believe. Lucius really did love his son too much, he wanted him to be the wizard he wanted to be and not what someone would force him to be. He never hid his beliefs from his son or his wife but he would never make them follow just because he did.
