ANGELA
••••••••••••••

The next morning, I woke up with the feeling of something small and warm in my arms. Slowly cracking open my eyes, I was met with a familiar grayish cat- Bubbles.

My heart warmed as she looked up at me while snuggling in my arms. I slowly started brushing my fingers through her soft fur, thinking about all the things she might have been up to while I was gone.

A few minutes go by when the door opens and Elijah enters the room, fully dressed in a fresh suit and his phone in one hand. He glances over at me and gives me a small smile - a soft smile, he only ever gives me.

"Good morning." I greet as I sit and place Bubbles on my lap.

"Good morning indeed." He smiles. "I love seeing you in my bed."

I feel my cheeks warm and look down at Bubbles who has fallen back asleep. Elijah walks towards the bed and watches as I softly pet the small cat in my lap.

"She usually comes and sleeps next to me at night." He says and I smile, thinking about how he said that she would snuggle next to him ever since I left. She was keeping him company and he loved every bit of it - no matter how much he tries to deny it.

I smile while looking at Bubbles."I missed her."

"I missed you." Elijah whispers and my head shoots up to look at him, my heart skipping a beat. He gives me a sad smile before coming to sit next to me on the bed.

"How did you sleep?" He changes the subject and I breath out a heavy sigh.

"Fine." I reply and he raises an eyebrow.

"Only fine?" A small smirk tugs at his lips. "You were drooling all over my pillow the entire night."

I gasp as I look at him, "I did not."

His teasing smile grows, "Yes you did."

I narrow my eyes and playfully glare at him, "I did not. You were the one who was snoring so loudly, I couldn't even get in a few hours of sleep." I lie.

I slept like a baby last night.

Now he's the one playfully glaring at me. "You and I both know that's a lie, Angel." He says and I can't help but smile and let out a small chuckle.

His features softens as he stares at me. My smile fading as we both grow quiet and stare at each other.

In that moment, my mind wonders off to what we talked about last night.

I opened up about how I truly felt- about how hard it has been for me to trust people again. I felt a bit vulnerable in that moment but Elijah- in a way- made me feel comfortable to share it with him.

Maybe it was the way he held me in his arms or the way his hand ran up and down my arm. Maybe it was the way he listened to me without judgment or maybe it was the way he kissed my forehead with so much softness that I just felt safe in that moment - with him.

My heart beats a bit faster with each second that ticks by, finding it hard to look away from him.

Slowly, my eyes starts to run over his face, starting from his neatly styled dark hair to his dark brows. Then traveling to his grayish eyes that's tracing my face with just as much intensity.

My heart beats even faster as my eyes land on his lips and his on mine. The temperature in the room seem to intensify as I see Elijah slightly inch forward. It feels as if I'm being pulled by a magnet, leaning towards him with a racing heartbeat.
