Coming Home

Beca and Chloe kept some minimal communication after that facetime call. It was better than nothing, but they could both feel their relationship fading away.

It now was a few days before Beca was supposed to come back to Barden, and Chloe couldn't help but be excited.

A lot would be changing when she came home, but one of the big things Chloe was worried about was their room. She debated moving in with Amy, or even taking the empty room in the basement.

Just as she was contemplating packing up her stuff, Beca called.

"Hey."

"Hey."

Beca was silent on the other end.

"Sooo..." Chloe said.

"Sorry I don't know what I was going to say anymore."

"Ok... I should go then." Chloe went to hang up.

"No. Don't."

"What did you want to tell me?"

The smallest and stupidest part of Chloe's brain wanted Beca to say she missed her. She wanted her to somehow fix this. She wanted to go back in time before all of the fighting, and change how things went.

"I don't know. I think I just wanted to hear your voice."

Chloe's stomach dropped a little.

"You're coming back on Friday aren't you?" It was Wednesday, and Chloe had been waiting for this day since Beca left.

"Well... I guess that's what I was going to tell you."

"Beca?" Chloe's stomach dropped again, this time from pain. She knew what was coming.

"I think I might stay here. My mom has a friend who owns a recording studio and I could get a job there. I can finish my last year of college online while I make music, Chlo."

Chloe was silent. She was too busy choking back tears to talk. How could Beca leave without a goodbye for a month, let alone a year?

"Chloe?"

"Sorry."

Chloe wanted to scream at her. She wanted to beg her to come back, but Beca was no longer Chloe's. As much as Chloe liked to forget it, they broke up.

"So, I think that's what I'm going to do. I'll probably still come home Friday to get my stuff from the house."

"Ok." Chloe said softly.

"Ok."

Chloe hung up.

The fighting hurt. The break up hurt. But nothing hurt worse than this. The girl she loved with her entire heart was moving across the country, and the worst part was she seemed to have no care.
