If anyone told me I would be out in the world helping in gathering the minority of survivors I would laugh at their faces. And, if anyone told me there would be an undetected virus that killed people and then turned them into monsters that crave for human flesh that turn other people into them, I would think they are crazy.

But, crazy became reality that not one person was prepared for. Madness was what ruled Earth. I believe it is the one thing that is responsible for all of this.

I put the black jacket on, looking at the long mirror in front of me. A long, wavy brown hair girl with pale skin that makes her eyes look even greener than they should be stared back at me. I swatted off any invisible dust that was on my black uniform, then looked up again.

Allie, you'll survive this. You always do.

I heard my mom's warm, assuring tone. Her voice was always in the back of my head telling me to keep going when I felt like I couldn't. She was always there even when I couldn't see her.

The girl in the mirror became blurry, and I blinked a couple of times trying to hold back the tears. I brought my hands up to my necklace that was resting on my neck. There was a small, circular pendant constructed into it. Sun and the moon were inscribed.

"What's this mom?" My 12 year old self had a giddy smile on her face as she looked at the beautiful necklace.

My mom crouched down to be on the same level as me, and unclasped it. Her bright eyes were content. She replied as she put it on, "This necklace represents our family history."

I looked down, observing the symbols. My face held a frown, trying to figure out why the sun and the moon exactly. So, I asked.

She smiled again standing up. "You will learn in time. It's the legacy of the Rodger's family. It is what defines me, your dad, your grandparents, and..." My eyes were circles of wonder. I patiently waited for her to continue, "And it is what defines you."

I got out of the hallway to see Kana leaning against the wall. She looked at the watch with frustration.

"You are 10 minutes late." She grumply muttered, starting to walk.

"I - I didn't know when you were going to show up." I refined it. "Commander said I'm starting the training today; he never said when."

"That's why you ask me or anyone else beforehand," She argued, speeding up. Her hazel eyes were in rage. She didn't care about my excuses. "You need to be on time."

I wanted to say that I didn't know anyone else here. That I didn't even want to do this. That it's only 10 minutes late and that she's exaggerating. I didn't say anything like that though.

Instead I muttered, "Sorry."

We got on the first floor and into the training room. It wasn't the training room we usually were each morning where the trainers taught us.
