Minho continued to visit me throughout the days after he got back from the maze. Newt kept ignoring me and I was stuck in his room.
"Aye greenie," Minho poked his head through the door at night. "Newt still out?"
"Yep," I nodded, "Doing who knows what."
He rolled his eyes, before raising an eyebrow. "What are you doing?"
I was spread out on the floor with my hair covering my face. "Trying to not be bored. Newt just locks me in here." He barley talked to me which was really annoying. I mean, I really liked him. I know he didn't remember me, but still.
"Oh, poor you," Minho said sarcastically. "Besides, you're just naturally boring."
"Shut up shuck face." I murmured without realizing that I had used a glader term.
He chuckled. "You're cute when you try to talk like you belong here."
I ignored the rolling in my stomach that occurred when he called me "cute" and started to brush the hair out of my eyes. "Well I do belong here now."
"No you don't," Sighing, Minho started to walk over, plopping down next to me on the floor. "I almost feel bad for you."
"Wow, Minho is actually feeling something. Turns out he's not just a sarcastic robot!"
"Shut up greenie," He looked down at me. "Do you think that you could be a good runner?"
His question sort of surprised me. When I read the first Maze Runner book Thomas wasn't even supposed to become a runner. Thanks to Minho he did. I sat up shoulder to shoulder with Minho and looked down at my body. I wasn't chubby or anything but I defiantly wasn't in shape. A long time ago when I was on the track team I could actually run forever. Now all my days were spent reading or sitting on the couch watching tv. Running wasn't in my vocabulary.
"You look like with some training you could be a good runner," Minho continued.
"With lots of training," I rolled my eyes before getting serious. "Well um...I'm not sure I'd be a great runner. I've never been the best at running. I cam run for a short amount of time but I'm not sure if I could run in the Maze like you do."
"I'm sure you'd be better at it than half of the shanks that live here are."
A light smile appeared my face before I bit my lip. "You think that Newt will let me?"
"If it were up to him then you wouldn't be able to. But in case you haven't noticed I'm kind of the one in charge. Newt is second in command."
"It doesn't feel right, I mean he should have a say in this..." Minho and I stared at each other for a second while he thought it over. He often seemed to act on impulse but I knew he wasn't completely stupid.
"Fine, I'll talk to him about it. Just know that the answer will most likely say no."
"Thanks Minho," I said softly, looking down and playing with a strand of my hair. "Newt still doesn't run the maze any more does he?"
"Not any more."
