The Aftermath

181 50 4

It started with one
Then 2, then 3
Followed by a fourth one.
You've always been
poficient at addition.

It went from 8 to 16
ending with 32 stray marks
On your wrists
You're arms
Your thighs.
You probably haven't realized,
You were doing exponential
functions.
Never have I once doubted
Your intellectual ability.

The end result of this equation,
Seconds of relief
Though hours, days, months
Even years of regret.

You're left with an equation
In which you can't
Subtract your mistakes
Nor can you isolate
Yourself,
The variable that leaves everyone
trying to figure out,
Where it all went wrong.

You say you've tried
But there's not much work shown.
You say your solution to it all is
infallible,
Yet you didn't go back to check the
work.

Is it all worth
the agony
the remorse
the chaos
the indignity
the destructive aftermath?
