CHAPTER NINETEEN — THE MISTAKE
[EMMY'S PERSPECTIVE]

THE FIRE WAS LIT, the gladers cheered and clinked their glasses together. emmy sighed, taking a sip out of her own glass as she sat on the grass by herself.

by the time she had few glasses of that awful drink, she looked oppose her, seeing minho do the exact same thing. it felt oddly comforting to see him just as alone.

gally had already began fighting the other gladers, each boy was now pressuring the greenie to step up and fight him.

eventually, he stood up, slowly making his way towards gally in a nervous wobble.

despite the commotion, emmy couldn't help but look at minho, she was ashamed of how much she liked him.

hearing a loud thump, her eyes snapped back over to gally and the greenie. she watched as the small boy's head hit the floor.

he groaned, tears almost instantly spilling from his eyes. it was soon clear an epiphany came over him, in which he stood up and yelled in nothing but joy: "my name is chuck!"

her lips couldn't help but pull into a smile, which quickly washed away when gally sat down next to her.

"why do you always waste your time on that shank?" he spat, clearly already having quite a few glasses of his drink.

"shuck off." the girl mumbled, standing up and walking away to homestead, being closely followed.
she could hear his stomping and annoyed huffs.

"honestly, you could do so much better than him." gally grumbled, saying his name as if it was dirt.

emmy just rolled her eyes, believing the smart decision was to ignore him.

"you're with him, aren't you?" he continued, following the girl up the stairs, still pestering her with questions.

"no. now leave, gally." emmy stopped on the stairs and sighed, too tired to deal with him at that minute.

he grabbed her wrist, his grip tightening with each passing second. "please, choose me."

"what?" she spat, pulling her wrist away and shoving him away from her. "after that? after everything you've said about me?"

his face looked even more hurt than it did before. but emmy didn't care. she had never been more outraged at the builder.

"is this a joke?" she yelled, a laugh of disbelief escaping her mouth. "you're the biggest shank in this place!"

"get out." she hissed, lightly pushing him away.

emmy watched as he frowned, turning around and walking out the door, slamming it behind him.

she sunk down on the step she was stood on, burying her head in her knees.

"em?" a small voice said, with a little sniffle.

before she even looked up, emmy knew it was minho. she always knew.

"did that shank do something?" minho practically yelled, clearly drunk and not thinking straight. "i swear to god, if he tried somethin-"

emmy shook her head, a weak smile on her face, motioning for him to sit next to her.

"em, i'm so sorry, i sh-shouldn't have benched you." he slurred, slowly making his way over to her. "i just worry about you."

"i know." she sighed, putting her head in her hands, feeling the headache that comes with the alcohol.
