CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE — NIGHT AND DAY
[EMMY'S PERSPECTIVE]

MINHO HAD FOLLOWED her into the woods, by the lake; at their spot. he was worried about her. he always was.

a small glimpse of him is all it took to turn emmy's stomach into knots. she'd smile down at herself, thinking about the moment that had taken place not too long ago.

it was the most meaningful thing that had happened to her since she arrived at the glade.

although it may have been a mistake, emmy couldn't help but plead for it to happen again. just once more. the two sat down on the grass, picking away at the thin green leaves as if they were just two kids.

his silence was both deafening and comforting, emmy begged for him to say something. yet, she only wanted it to be something she had wished for.

the two were alone, in their spot. it had been a while since they had both sat there together.

"emmy." minho muttered, waiting for her to make eye contact with him, but she never did. "hey, look at me." he said, softly.

after a second, she glanced up at him with a weak smile.

"can we talk about... it?" he asked, shuffling closer to her.

emmy didn't want to, she didn't want him to talk about his regrets. about how he wished nothing had happened; and how he prayed they would stay friends.

she could hear her heart beating, and her breath speeding up. there was only one thing she could think to do.

the girl leaned forward, pushing her lips onto his, almost feeling his surprise.

he kissed her back, placing his hands on her waist and gently pushing her down against the grass. she was smiling, running her hands through his raven coloured hair.

emmy could feel him smile against her lips, his hand still lingering on her waist.

her back hit the green, her hands slid down to his jaw; pulling his face closer to hers.

the two pulled apart to catch their breath. they stared at each other, minho brushing the soft hair out of her face.

"minho..." she breathed, the mentioning of his name was all he needed to want to kiss her again.

he gazed down at her lips, slowly moving closer to her. their lips slowly connected and blood rushed right to minho's cheeks.

it felt unreal for emmy, having his lips on hers. feeling comfortable in this prison.

the feeling almost rushed away when he pulled himself off her, burying his head in his hands.

she sat up, avoiding eye contact with him, looking down at her shoes.

"we can't do that. not out here." minho mumbled, his jaw tensing, glancing over at her and seeing the broke look on her face. "i'll come to your room tonight, okay?"

he rose to his feet, taking one glance at her before leaving.

______________________

the night rolled around, emmy sat on the edge of her bed, waiting for her boy. she couldn't help but feel nervous.

her cheeks flushed when minho walked in, not even bothering to knock. she rose to her feet, watching as he walked straight over to her, not bothering to say a single word to her before kissing her.

this kiss was much more rough than the previous two. it was like he needed her more than ever before.

she flung her hands around his neck, pulling him closer to her. a shiver ran across emmy's body as she felt his hands delicately fall on her hips, grazing her bare skin, guiding her towards the bed.

minho let her fall, and collect her thoughts, before he climbed on top of her; smiling at her.

"hey, emmy." he breathed heavily, brushing her hair with his hand. he kissed her once again. a shorter, sweeter, kiss than before. it was almost a peck.

his lips moved towards her neck. she smiled as he kissed her, almost giggling.

that was until the two heard a noise from outside, minho almost leaped off of her, scrambling for a place to hide as a knock came at her door.

he hid underneath her bed as emmy ran towards the door.

she opened it to see it was frypan.

"hey, fry." emmy smiled, trying to breathe as normally as she could.

the girl panicked when he saw his confused look.

"i... i wanted to tell you how the greenie was getting on." he said, trying to peer into her room. "what are you hiding?" he chuckled.

"nothing, i'm just tired." emmy said suspiciously fast, trying to shut the door on him. "can we talk about this tomorrow, fry?"

she shut the door before he could respond, turning around and pushing her back against it. minho rolled out from under the bed, a bright smile covering his face.

he made his way towards her. "you covered that well didn't ya?" the boy whispered, placing a soft kiss to her cheek and tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

the girl rolled her eyes, shoving her off of him. "i got him to leave, didn't i?"

the two glanced over at each other, their smiles fading for just a second before emmy spoke again. "we need to talk about... this. set a few ground rules."

minho nodded, clearing his throat. "nothing more than kissing, okay?" he said.

emmy smiled in agreement, shuffling closer to him. "and we can't kiss anywhere too public." she suggested. "also, let's not tell anyone. it's too risky."

"what about in the maze?" he asked, a small but noticeable smirk on his face. "i mean... technically it's not public."

"when we are supposed to be doing our jobs?" the girl said, her eyebrows raised and eyes widened.

"okay, okay, so let's not do anything in the maze." minho laughed, moving closer to her. he placed his hand on hers, brushing emmy's palm with his index finger. he traced the lines on her hand; she twitched.

the boy looked up at her, looking at her in the eyes. he almost jumped back, scrambling to his feet. "i should go."

"oh- right." emmy coughed, standing up and standing behind him, glancing at her door.

"i'll see you later." he said, opening the door and walking out of it without another word.
