Bonfire night could go two ways. Either everyone is a responsible human or someone creates a domino effect. Usually it's the 2nd one thanks to Gally's special drink. I never participate in it, but it's entertaining to see everyone embarrass themselves.

Tonight was one of those nights where I was going to get some good blackmail material. Most of them would be waking up with headaches. I wasn't fond of feeling terrible tomorrow so I stayed away from it. I also may have done some stupid things once or twice.

"Y/N. Ya' look bloody fantastic,"Newt slurred out. He wasn't one to get drunk, but life has been hard on him lately.
"Hello to you to Newt. You feeling okay?"I asked.
"Absolutely great. I'm on what good old Minho calls liquid courage."

I rolled my eyes. Of course it was his idea to get him plastered. Then, a thought crossed my mind. "Why do you need liquid courage?"I asked, with air quotes at the last part.
"I haven't gotten there yet,"He dismissed. I looked at him weird. He always says the wildest things when drunk. This was strangely normal tonight.

"Why don't you come sit then while it sets in?"I suggested, patting the ground next to me. He did so with Gally's drink in his hand.

"Alby's going to kill you tomorrow if you wake up to hungover to work,"I reminded him.
"Yeah, but I'm to much of a shank to tell ya' sober."

I sighed. He was going to say something stupid and completely forget in the morning. I think about twelve of the guys here will. At least, it's fun to watch. I'm careful with Newt though because I want to make sure he's still okay.

"What's up Newt?"I asked, leaning back against a log.
"I really like you. As more than a friend."

I instantly say straight up turning to look at him. "You're drunk. It's time for bed,"I said firmly. He couldn't have said something stupid? It had to be that? Tomorrow I have to get up and pretend none of this happened. It doesn't matter what I think. He's drunk, and that's enough to not believe him even if I want to.

"No, I'm bloody serious Y/N,"He hiccuped out.
"Tell you what. If you remember this tomorrow then I'll believe you. Now come on,"I said, helping him up. He stumbled over his feet resulting in me leaning him against my shoulder the way there.

"There. I'll see you in the morning,"I said, helping him in his hammock. He was silent. I turned around to leave when he lightly grabbed my hand.
"Please stay,"He asked.

I wanted to, but I can't. If I'm being honest this already hurts. As much as I'd like him to feel this way I can't trust his words right now.

"I'm sorry,"I whispered, scared to say anything louder.
"Can you at least tell me your answer?"He pleaded.

I thought it over. He's not going to remember this in the morning. If he does then he probably meant it. This wouldn't hurt us.

"I've been in love with you for a while. That's why I can't stay,"I explained gently. His face dropped.

"Please?"He begged one last time.

His voice was so quiet, almost silent. His eyes seemed to clear for just one second as he asked.

"Okay. I'll stay on the floor tonight."
"No. Here,"He pleaded, rubbing my knuckles. Only then did I realize he hadn't let go of my hand.

"Okay,"I agreed, crawling next to him. I could smell the alcohol on his breath, but I could also smell the scent of the gardens.

He pulled my closer making my breath hitch in my throat. His chin was on my head with me laying on his chest. His arms were around me not to loose but not to tight. It was perfect, but then again so was he.

I could feel his breathing slow letting me know he was asleep or at least on his way there. "Goodnight Newt,"I said into the darkness.
"Goodnight Love,"He whispered back.
