Finding Her

Suffering

My dad carries my small body up the stairs
I'm quivering in his big arms.
He had just beaten me and I had screamed bloody murder.
Tears are falling down my face rapidly.
"I'm sorry baby"
He tells me as he places me down onto my bed.
"It's- it's my fault"
I admit.
"You're learning baby"
He smiles shocked at how easily I've admitted it
I nod as he yanks up the covers.
He gives me some sleeping medicine and I take it willing.
I feel myself fade into darkness
I wake up screaming and Jane is not there.
I get up and check the bathroom.
She's still not there
I rush into the living room panicked with tears in my eyes.
I see her sitting on the sofa.
"Oh baby..."
I sob and she takes me into her arms.
"I-I'm so scared!"
I sob
"Sh sh there's nothing here to hurt you baby"
"My- my dad"
I whine
"Baby he doesn't know where we live."
"How- how do you know?! My dad- knows everything about me!!"
"Honey sh he wouldn't come near you."
"You don't know him like I do!"
"Okay Sh sh honey you're yelling."
"I'm- I'm just scared, I'm sorry baby"
She takes me into her lap and she cradled me like a child
"What if he comes back?!"
"You can't think like that baby"
I nod slightly in her arms.
She rocks me slightly.
She looks at me like I'm her baby.
"I- I want to sleep but I'm too scared"
"Shall we go for a walk to tire you out baby?"
"Yes please- I want to feel safe"
She nods.
We quickly grab our bags.
I yawn as I lock the door.
I quickly grab Jane's hand.
"Can- can you stay by my side?!"
I question panicked
"Yea of course baby."
I nod.
We walk to the woods and Jane tries to persuade me to go in
"No no no"
I whine.
Tears start to fall.
"Okay honey deep breaths"
"No please- I've been good I promise!!"
I sob
"Baby baby Sh sh I'm not whoever you think I am. I'm not gonna hurt you"
"Don't- don't make me go into the woods not again please?!"
"Sh"
She wraps her arms around me and I sob into her chest
My knees buckle and I sob as I hit the floor
I cling to Jane
"Oh honey, your knees are bleeding"
I look down to see that I've bashed my knees pretty bad.
"It- it hurts so bad"
"Honey let's get you patched up at home
She quickly orders us an Uber
I am sobbing the whole way home.
Jane quickly lifts me inside after paying the Uber driver
She carries me upstairs.
She holds me until she sits me down on the bed.
"Where are you going?!"
I question once she goes to turn away.
"I'm going to get some supplies from the cabinet. I'll only be a second baby"
I wince as I looks at my knee.
She cleans them then she puts plasters on them.
She helps me to get changed into my pyjamas.
"Why wouldn't you go into the woods honey?"
"I- I can't talk about it right now"
"Alright get some rest honey and then maybe we can talk tomorrow"
She holds me tightly and I nod
I put my head down onto the pillow
I sob until I fall asleep with Jane holding me and protecting me.
