Chapter 8: Protection

"You ready to go to the shops" I called up the stairs
"Yeah hold on" Leah shouted down
I went and sat on the sofa and waited

After about 10 minutes she finally came down
"You said you were ready 10 minutes ago" I laughed
"I was but then I spilled toothpaste on top"
"And that took you 10 minutes to change?"
"Exactly"

We walked out of the house and got in the car

"Right who's pushing the trolly" Leah said
"Is that even a question" i laughed, grabbing the trolly and pushing it

"Look at this!" I exclaimed pointing at football that glowed up in the dark
"Woah" Leah said sarcastically
"Way to ruin the mood"
I grabbed the ball and started to do keepie ups with it
"Will you put it down! People are watching you" Leah whisper-shouted at me
I listened to her and put the ball down
"Thank you"
"No problem" I smiled

I pulled up to the house, we got out and went to the trunk to get the shopping bags out
After doing one round up to the door we heard someone shouting my name
"Hey Alex" Molly said walking over
"You alright" I smiled
"Yeah thanks, hi Leah"
"Hi" Leah mumbled
"You never messaged me"
"Sorry I didn't have time, been very busy recently" I shrugged grabbing another bag out of the trunk
"That's alright, I understand. How's football"
"Yeah good, been putting the effort in and it's paid off" I said
I looked to my side to see Leah standing there clearly annoyed
"Good, you'll remember me when you become the goat won't you?" She said making me cringe
"The goat?" I questioned with a smirk
"You know what I mean" she laughed leaning her body into mine
"I'm having some friends over, you should come over" she said stepping closer to me, rubbing her hand up my arm
I looked down at my arm and then back down at her face
She smiled, trying to give puppy eyes
cringe.
"Um yeah sure, when is it?"
"Tonight"
Shit
"What time should I come over"
"Come early before my mates, maybe 6 ish" she smiled
"Alright, see you then" I smiled
"Bye" she waved walking up to her house

I grabbed the last of the bags and waited for Leah to unlock the front door
"So when are you going to be back from her house" Leah said in an annoyed tone
"Mollys?"
"Mhm"
"Don't know, I'll try to leave early" I shrugged
"Bet she'll be saddened by that news"
"Maybe" I said trying not to get in an argument with Leah

"Can't believe you even agreed" Leah said from my door frame as I put my shirt on
"I thought I could say yes and then not go but when she said tonight I knew I couldn't back out" I shrugged
"Could have used me as an excuse" Leah said standing in front of me and pulling my shirt
"Oh yeah?" I teased
Leah looked down at her watch
"Oh look it's time to go, gotta be there early for her don't you" Leah snapped
"Okay hold on" I pulled her into a hug
"I'll be gone for a few hours that's all"
"Yeah but with her" Leah said
I laughed and walked to the front door
"Bye!" I shouted

"Alex!" Molly said as she opened the door pulling me into a hug

"Come on in" she opened the door wider
"What drink would you like?"
"Diet Coke please"
"Don't you a beer or something"
"Should only have one really, got training tomorrow" i shrugged

More of her friends arrived, I introduced myself to all of them and then we started to talk and drink, well they did

"Hey Alex" molly slurred coming and sitting on my lap
I froze
I quickly regained myself and talked to her
"Comfy?" I asked her
"Mhm" she said leaning into me

I didn't even see it coming until she had her lips on mine

I pushed her off me
"Sorry molly" I shook my head
"I thought we had the same feelings" molly said looking sad
"I've gotta go" I said getting up and going over to mine and Leah's house
I got through the door and into the kitchen to see Leah looking at a photo that had been sent to her
That photo being of some of the girls at Molly's house and then molly sat on my lap and kissing me in the background
You couldn't see my face but you could see mollys and that's how I knew Leah knew it would have been me she had been sitting on
"It's not what it looks like" I said quietly
"What is it then?" Leah snapped
Why is she angry? We just friends, right
"She kissed me" I said raising my voice
"And you aloud it?"
"Why do you care? It's not like you and me are going out so it's got nothing to do with you" I snapped
"Woah okay" Leah said quietly walking out of the room and up to her room
I gave her a few minutes before going into her room
She was looking out of her window at the sunset
I walked up behind her and hugged her from behind, putting my head on her shoulder
"I'm sorry" I whispered
"Your right, we're not together so why should I care" she shrugged
"Tell me why you got annoyed?" I asked
"Jealous I guess" Leah whispered nervously
"Who off?" I asked her
"You, she gets to be close to you and kiss you" Leah said playing with the draw strings on her jumper
"And you want to be that with her?" I asked confused
There's no way she talking about me, right?
"No, you..."
"Oh" I said shocked
"I've liked since you were at Utd" Leah confessed
"But we hated each other then?"
"You might of hated me but I didn't hate you" she sighed
"Oh" I said moving away from her and sitting on her bed
"I don't know what to say" I added
"You can tell me if you don't like me back"
It's wasn't that
"It's not that Leah, I like you and all but I don't know if I could do another relationship right now" I sighed
"I can wait" Leah smiled
I stood up and hugged her
"You don't have to, if you find someone else I won't hold on to you" I said pulling out of the hug
"Come on let's get you some sleep" Leah smiled

"No Leah! Can you back away please" I snapped making my breakfast
"What's wrong with you? Wake up on the wrong side of the bed?" Leah joked
"Funny" I said sarcastically

"Katie!" I shouted as she poured a whole load of water on me
I stormed into the changing rooms and throw my boots against the wall
I slumped down into my seat and got out of the wet top, I dropped it on the floor and then tried to find a different top

Leah came in and hugged me from behind
"I can't find a top" i huffed
"You want one of mine" Leah asked softly
"Um yes please" I mumbled
She went over and got her top and gave it to me
"Thanks"

We were all sat in the chill room, about to go outside and sit on the grass in the sun
"Wheres our normal happy Alex gone?" Beth teased from the other side of the room
"Not here today" i grunted pulling my hood over my head
Leah nudged me from the side of me, I looked at her and she pulled a confused face
"What?" I said harsher then I mean
"Alex!" Wally shouted at me watching the inter reaction with her "little sister"
"What?" I said standing up, storming out of the room and outside on to the pitch

I grabbed some balls and started to fire it at the net
Some of the girls came out and laid on the grass watching me
Leah came walking up to me
"What's wrong with you" she asked
"Don't talk to me like that" I said sternly
"Or what?" Leah challenged me
"You know I can't and don't want to do anything to you! Just leave me alone please"
"Yeah you need to calm down" Leah huffed walking away

Leah slammed the front door
"What you doing that for!" I shouted
"Don't speak to me in my house like that!" Leah said sternly
"It's my house too now" I shouted
"What's put you in a mood today" Leah said
"Don't want to talk about it" I shrugged
"Don't you think I should know after the performance you put on today" Leah shouted
"Leah stop!" I could feel the anger raising
"Or what" she said taking another step closer to me
I looked down and sighed
"It's 2 years ago today that my uncle died" I whispered
"Alex" Leah sighed
"No it's fine, sorry I shouldn't have reacted like this today, it won't happen again" I said pushing past her
I was creeping back into my old self, pushing my feelings as deep down as I could
I walked into my bedroom and laid on my bed closing my eyes
I heard Leah walk into the room and lay herself on top of me
I moved my hands to hold her and rub my hands up and down her back
"I'm sorry about today" I whispered
"I'm sorry for shouting at you"
"You know my uncle, he was the best, he was the only male figure in my family who cared about my football, he lived so far away but would drive me to camps just so I could go to them" I smiled remembering the memories
"He sounds great" Leah smiled up at me

"Hello Mr Williamson" I smiled holding my hand out for him the shake
"Hello Alex" he said sitting down
"It's nice to finally meet you" I smiled
"Hm yeah, nice to meet you too" he said
"You alright dad?" Leah asked
"Of course I am hun" he said happily
He turned to me and stopped smiling
"So how were your grades at school?" He asked
"Um yeah they were pretty good, passed all of them" I smiled nervously
I felt Leah put her hand on my thigh
"Hmm good enough" he mumbled

The conversation went on like this for a while

"Leah?" I boy said coming up the table
"Oliver?" Leah questioned, squeezing my thigh
"I've missed you" the boy said
"Sorry Oliver but I'm not interested anymore"
This caused something in Oliver, he grabbed her shirt pulling her up
I stood up
"Woah, get off her" i said sternly
"Shut up your pathetic" he laughed
"Say you miss me" Oliver said to Leah
I moved so I was standing next to Leah
I pushed to boy causing him to let go of Leah
"I told you to get off her" I said swinging a punch at his chest
"She doesn't want you so move on" i said grabbing his jumper and dragging him outside then informing the security people to not let him back in
I walked back up to the table and pulled Leah into a hug
"You alright?" I asked her
"Yeah thank you"
I moved round to my side of the table
Leah's dad stood up and put out his hand
"You've earned my respect, thank you for looking after her" he smiled at me

I had just earned Leah's dad respect...
