LONGING FOR HOME

Monday, February 18th, 1980.

On the upper deck of the ship, Jeongguk stood upright, displaying an assertive and dignified posture as he leaned against the railing, his grip firm on the steady rifle.

His eyes gazed out towards the horizon, his face illuminated by the last orange rays of sunlight before twilight descended, casting its spell on the stars.

As he listened to the serene rhythm of the waves, he couldn't help but feel peace wash over him.

It was the eighteenth month of his deployment, and today marked his final day.

Jeongguk had never missed counting the passing days, eagerly anticipating his return home to his family, most of all to his beloved.

Thoughts of his loved one brought to mind the letter he had received from her two months prior, a letter he had yet to read.

Searching through his pants pocket, he retrieved the crinkled paper.

With one hand, he carefully unfolded the letter.

A gentle smile formed on his lips as he read the words, recognizing the familiar handwriting and the passionate, direct style of expression.

The words resonated deeply within him.

Dear Jeongguk,

I've been counting the days... I have written numerous letters to you, knowing well that you won't be able to reply. I simply wish to pour out my feelings and convey how much I miss you. Please return safely, my love.

Love, Julia.

As Jeongguk folded the letter and slipped it back into his pocket, he fought to hold back the tears welling up in his eyes, especially at the last two lines.

Every two months, Julia would send a brief letter, reassuring him that she was doing fine in his absence.

From the other side of his pocket, he retrieved a small picture of Julia, a cherished memento that he always carried with him.

The more he looked at the photograph, the more he yearned for her presence.

As Jeongguk gazed at the picture of Julia, a flood of memories and emotions washed over him

As Jeongguk gazed at the picture of Julia, a flood of memories and emotions washed over him.

The photograph captured her radiant smile and the warmth in her eyes, reminding him of the love they shared.

He held the picture close to his heart, finding solace in its presence despite the harsh realities of war.

The sound of the waves crashing against the ship soothed Jeongguk's weary soul, momentarily transporting him away from the chaos of the battlefield.

He tightened his grip on the rifle, ready to fulfil his duty on his last day of deployment.

Jeongguk's heart overflowed with gratitude for Julia's support and love. Her letters provided a lifeline of hope and strength during his time away.

As the ship sailed towards its destination, Jeongguk remained resolute in his mission.

With the image of her smile etched in his mind, Jeongguk drew strength from her love.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Jeongguk whispered a final promise to the evening breeze, carrying his words to Julia on invisible wings.

"I'll be home soon, Julia. Just a little longer."

With hope, he turned his gaze back to the sea, his heart filled with the anticipation of their reunion and the joy that awaited him on his journey back home.
