Tessa let herself in to the small shed attached to the Keltis house, which Kaiden proudly referred to as his 'garage'. He'd given her a spare key a while ago to come and go as she pleased. She kept it in the front pocket of the small bag she now carried slung over her shoulder, which held a few books for her to read as she watched Kaiden work on whatever project he was currently on.
She opened the door to silence, which was unusual. Maybe Kaiden was inside the house? Tessa entered the workspace and saw her carricorri, in his chair at one of his work desks, asleep. She smiled at the image of the man, still holding a strange metal component in his hands, slumped back into the chair but somehow not falling out of it. She walked over and cupped his cheek gently with her hand. His eyes fluttered behind their eyelids and his forehead tensed for a few moments before he relaxed and smirked gently.
"Hey handsome, you fell asleep working again." Tessa told him softly, stroking his cheek to ease him awake. Kaiden didn't open his eyes, merely smiled wider and nuzzled her hand.
"Your neck is going to hurt so bad if you stay like that." She reprieved him.
"It already does." He groaned and brought up a hand to rub his neck for a second. Kaiden yawned and leaned completely against Tessa's hand, going still again. She rolled her eyes and swiftly turned around despite a sound of protest from the tired boy.
Tessa walked into the house and headed straight for the living room, knowing her way around well. She passed Kaiden's mother in the hallway who greeted her warmly.
"Hello Tesserya, how are you? I think Kaiden is in his garage."
"Hello Mrs. Liana, I'm doing fine thank you. Yes Kay is in his garage I already saw him. He fell asleep working on something. Again." Tessa responded to her. Liana sighed affectionately.
"He's been working very hard lately and staying up too late. Very late last night actually. Even if it was somewhat forced at least he's sleeping." She said with a shrug.
"Yeah. Can I take one of the pillows from the couch out to him? His head is dangling off the chair. He's going to be sore when he wakes up." Tessa asked.
"That would be fine. Just make sure you tell him to bring back it in when he wakes up." Liana allowed as she walked into the next room.
Tessa headed towards the couch and grabbed one of the two royal blue pillows. Arms suddenly wrapped around her waist from behind and a face burrowed into her back. Tessa chuckled. "Hello there Kay."
He mumbled into her shoulder something that sounded like "why did you leave me in the garage?".
"I was getting you this." She answered and swung the pillow over her shoulder, smacking him in the head with it. Kaiden laughed and brought his head up to rest his chin on her shoulder.
"Why? You're here. I don't want to sleep away time I could be spending with you." Kaiden said, his voice still groggy with sleep.
"I'd rather you were well rested, trust me Kay, you're no fun when you're grumpy."
"Neither are you Tess, you're genuinely scary."
"Hey!" Tessa scoffed playfully and whacked him again. Kaiden ducked and hid behind her. They laughed for a minute before Kaiden yawned again, eyes starting to droop. Tessa perked with an idea.
"Alright, that's it." She twisted out of his arms and sat down on the couch, placing the pillow in her lap. She patted the space next to her. "Lay down Kaiden." She demanded. Kaiden raised a brow in confusion but curled up on the couch anyway. Next she patted the pillow in her lap.
"You can put your head here, if you want to." She told him. Kaiden's eyes sparkled at the invitation and he gladly accepted. He laid his head in her lap and shuffled into a comfortable position. She cradled his head tenderly in her hands. After a few moments she began coming her fingers through his hair and lightly scratching his scalp. Kaiden sighed in contentment and let his eyes slide closed.
"That feels nice Tess, please keep going." Kaiden requested.
"Aw so you like head scratches? That's adorable Kaiden."
He blushed slightly but didn't deny her. Tessa smiled down at him. She watched as his breathing gradually slowed and evened out. After she was sure he was asleep she bent down and kissed his forehead. She reached for the bag she'd dropped next to the couch and carefully pulled out a book for herself. She sat happily reading while still petting the sleeping genius in her lap.
