Ignored. Neglected. Never asked about. Never wanted.

This wasn't normal for most, but it was for you. Ever since your sibling(s) came along, you were cast aside and no longer a concern. You had tried to let your voice be heard and get some attention back, but all your parents ever cared about was the needs of the newborn(s).

"Daddy, can we--"

"Not now, (Y/N), I have to check on the baby."

"Mommy, look what I--"

"(Y/N), can't you see I'm feeding the baby?"

"Daddy--"

"Not now! I'm putting the baby to sleep."

And even when they got older and weren't dependent on them 24/7, you never rose from the backburner. You realized that even if your parents didn't have your other aiblings, you would be in the same rut you found yourself in.

"Mom--"

"Quiet! I'm working!"

"Dad--"

"I had a long day, (Y/N), I'm trying to sleep!"

"Mom--"

"(Y/N), just go to your room and keep out of trouble."

So you had done just that. From the age of nine, you learned that silence was golden, that attention was something to be avoided, that no one wanted to be around you nor cared that you had feelings and just wanted to be loved back. You learned that being out of sight was being out of mind, and that made everything easier and everyone happier. You learned to be mute in not just your speech but in how you conducted yourself.

You learned to disappear.

So that's why you never expected for him to approach you in the coffee shop. That's why you didn't know how to conduct yourself as he walked past all the attractive women and straight to your corner. That's why you didn't know how to make your heart stop racing as he placed himself in the seat in front of you and gave you the biggest smile, as if you were his whole world.

And all it took was one word to make your blood finally run warm again and melt your frozen heart.

"Hi."
