After that text I got no more text messages, and I finished my work for the night, and I went home and woke up the next morning and I drove to school. I was walking inside with Brooke, Emma, and Kieran and we were talking about last night.

Kieran: Brooke, you were there last night. Can't you back Emma up on what she saw?

Brooke: Well, I can't speak to the presence of a stalker collage, or the vanishing furniture.

Kieran: Or the squatter?

"Who would wanna steal furniture?"

Emma: No clue.

Brooke: I didn't really see anything.

We then went to our lockers.

Emma: Brooke, what? It's nothing that I haven't already thought.

Brooke: Look, you were not making any sense when you came out of that house last night, Emma. I'm sorry. It was... It was weird. I was worried.

Emma: Brooke... Hey, it's okay. We all have to be honest. It's the only way we're gonna move past this thing.

Brooke: It's just... you know, you've seen things before. Will, your dad...

Emma: Yeah. So, you think that this is a hallucination.

Brooke: Well, given all of the insanity that we've been through, it's not so crazy. Right?

Emma: Yeah, I guess.

"Where's Jake at? I have not seen him in days now."

Brooke: Probably doing something reckless.

Noah: Ah! What up, my Lakewood Eight! Though, technically, there are only seven of us at the moment.

"Yeah. Pretty much. I have not seen him for two days."

Noah: Come on, it's Jake. He faked mono for a week to get out of midterms.

Kieran: His parents are in Mexico. Maybe he's just laying low at home.

Emma: Brooke, have you tried texting him?

Brooke: No.

"I've tried but I got nothing."

Audrey got a message, and we all went our separate ways, and the bell rang, and we went to class.

Kristen: Say you're a zebra. You need to learn to face the lion, but you don't want to end up on the menu. So, what's the zebra brain do? It uses nightmares to simulate the conflict. Makes sense. They live their lives in constant fear of attack...

Brooke whispers to me, and Emma.

Brooke: I texted Jake.

"Wow. I never thought I'll see the day."

Brooke: Shut up.

"I have a bad feeling about Jake."

Kristen: Brooke, Y/N, Emma, can either of you tell us what our friends, the scientists, call this adaptation?

Brooke: Something about zebras?

Kristen: Yeah, but no.

Noah and Zoe both raised their hands at the same time.

Together: Threat simulation theory.

They both look at each other and I see a hint of jealousy in Riley.

Noah: Question is: if prey animals dream of their predators, what does the predator dream of?

Zoe: Girl predators.
