Dere hated it. It was red, sticky and scary. It was the colour of Dere's hair and the colour of the eyes of the person who killed Dere's Papa and Mama. It was the liquid that coated Dere's Papa and Mama's bodies when they died.
Blood was the liquid that ran through Dere's body and she hated herself. Dere's dress was the colour of blood.
Dere hated, hated blood. The cruel uncles in the lab who came and gave her food in her cell always took her blood for experimenting.
Blood was also the liquid that Dere fed on to live.
Dere missed the girl who smiled back at her when she looked in the mirror when she was still a human.
Dere hated the girl who had become this Dere Redbird.
She hated herself.
