Chaahat, ignoring the curious glances, walked straight towards the CEO's cabin.

He was the one who wanted her in the office first thing on Monday morning.

"Well, why not give him a good morning visit?" she thought.

She stopped in front of VK's PA's cabin.

"Hello, myself Chaahat Bhatra. I would like to meet Mr. Khoda," she told the lady.

"Do you have an appointment, Ma'am?" the lady asked.

"Not really. But I am a senior designer at K-fab. Could you please ask Mr. Khoda if it is okay to meet?" Chaahat asked politely.

"One second, Ma'am," the lady excused herself and took the intercom to dial VK's cabin phone. She spoke to him for a moment and then asked Chaahat to proceed.

"Thank you!" Chaahat said and walked into the cabin after a knock.

"Welcome to K-fab, Mrs. Yadav," Vedant Khoda said, and she unconsciously flinched at the way he addressed her.

In fact, he was the only person who had ever addressed her by Mithran's surname, and she was not used to it. There was no point in getting used to it anyway, as she would soon be leaving and the marriage would be dissolved.

But Vedant Khoda didn't need to know that.

"Thank you, Mr. Khoda," she said politely.

"It's good that you obeyed my orders and decided to join the office, Mrs. Yadav," Vedant Khoda said coldly.

"I am sorry, but I wasn't obeying your orders, Mr. Khoda. As you already know, I wish to resign from the job. So, if I disobeyed your order, the maximum you could do is get me fired from the job. And I would only be too happy to get fired from here," Chaahat said, casually shrugging her shoulders. She saw his eyes squinting at her in anger.

"Is that so? Then what, may I ask, brought you here into my office?" VK asked sarcastically.

"As you already know, I have been working from home ever since I started my professional life. And Mithran suggested that I join the office for a change of scene. Who knows if his intentions are to steal corporate ideas from K-fab and use them in SM construction. It didn't matter to me anyways. I decided to go forward with his opinion," she said sarcastically, remembering VK's baseless accusation against Mithran that day.

What could a construction company steal from the fashion industry anyways?

Men and their big-sized ego!

She chuckled inwardly at the thought of VK's fragile ego being bruised by her sarcastic remark. But she maintained a composed expression, looking him straight in the eye.

VK's face turned red, his jaw clenched tightly. Clearly, he wasn't enjoying the taunting tone of their conversation. But that only fueled her amusement further.

He leaned back in his chair, a condescending smile playing on his lips.

"I am thrilled to hear that you're just itching to be fired. It's truly heartwarming to witness such dedication and enthusiasm from a senior designer like yourself," Vedant Khoda said, and she didn't like it one bit.

'Nobody can comment on my dedication. I am a hundred percent dedicated to my work, and he should know that from my past work experience here. The reason why I want to leave K-fab is completely personal, and it has nothing to do with Mithran, as Mr. Khoda thinks. But I cannot say that to him.' She thought to herself.

"Well, I don't need to prove myself to anyone, Mr. Khoda. I will finish the contract period with all the dedication and enthusiasm I can muster up," she said coldly.

"As much as I would love to engage in this silly verbal banter with you, I have better things to do with my precious time. So, if you could get back to work..." VK trailed off, making a show of looking at his wristwatch to let her know she had wasted more than enough of his time.

She smiled politely, masking the annoyance bubbling within her. It was clear that Vedant Khoda was trying to provoke her, to get a reaction out of her. But she wasn't going to give him the satisfaction.

"Of course, Mr. Khoda," she replied calmly. "I apologise for taking up your time. I'll get back to work immediately."

Turning on her heel, she walked towards the door, but before leaving, she couldn't resist one last remark.

"By the way, Mr. Khoda, I assure you, my dedication and enthusiasm are unwavering, regardless of the circumstances."

With that, she exited the CEO's cabin, leaving Vedant Khoda fuming behind her.

She knew she had gotten under his skin, and that gave her a small sense of satisfaction.

But she also realised that engaging in this power play wouldn't serve any purpose. It was time to focus on her own goals and move forward.

As she was guided to her cabin, she resumed her work with renewed determination.

She had always worked from the comfort of her home. So, working here, in a professional atmosphere, was going to be a challenge. But she was ready to face anything that came her way.

As Mithran said, to move on, she had to come out of her comfort zone.

A couple of colleagues whom she had been connected with through Zoom calls over the years came to her to get personally introduced.

Though she felt suffocated with all the new connections that were forming on their own, she tried to paste a smile on her face and breeze through it.

She was almost succeeding when she saw him walking through the corridor towards VK's cabin.

She felt as if all the breath had been sucked out of her lungs.

This! This was the reason why she wanted to leave K-fab.

The possibilities of running into him were high. She hadn't expected to see him on her very first day there. All she could hope for was to move through the day without him seeing her or recognizing her.

She needed to stay out of his way, no matter what!

She continued her day, trying her best to avoid any encounters with Dhruv Khuranna. The office seemed like a maze, and she strategically manoeuvred through the hallways, hoping to stay out of his sight.

As the day progressed, she couldn't help but wonder why fate seemed intent on testing her resilience. It was as if the universe was playing a cruel game.

As the day drew to a close, she felt a sense of accomplishment. Despite the challenges, she had managed to navigate through her first day in the office. The initial jitters had transformed into a quiet confidence, and she realised that she was stronger than she had ever given herself credit for.

With a flicker of a smile and a glint of determination in her eyes, Chaahat stepped out of the office, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

She couldn't let Dhruv Khuranna's presence derail her from her goals.
