J A Z M I N E

I was currently sitting on the couch looking down at Aria who was asleep in my lap as my phone continued to ring, and I said a silent prayer hoping she would pick up since I had been calling all day with no answer due to her busy schedule which—

"Baby," She answered and weight immediately fell from my shoulders at the sound of her voice.

"Are you busy?"

"No, I just got in the car and saw you calling, I'm on my way home now," She replied, sounding tired.

"Did you eat?" I asked her softly.

"I ate lunch. I'm planning to make something quick for dinner when I get back,"

"I already ordered your favourite," I mumbled leaning back while the sound of cars in the background whispered over the call.

"What's that?"

"That leafy fried chicken shit from Reces," I announced, earning a small laugh from her.

"Everything with vegetables is considered as a leaf to you?"

"Yes, leaves, a bunch of grass, trees, bushes, just earth," I replied, making her laugh and the sound seemingly deleted all of my stress.

"Okay Jazmine, you suck toes but lettuce is where you draw the line," She pointed out and I suppressed my laugh the best I could not wanting to wake the little angel that was asleep in my lap.

Silence

"What's on your mind?" She asked softly after a few seconds of comfortable silence.

"What do you mean?"

"Baby I can tell when something's wrong, talk to me," She countered as I fixed the blanket on Aria.

"Spain wants me to come to a cookout Saturday," I explained.

"This Saturday?"

"No next week Saturday,"

"And what's the problem?"

"I don't know if I'm ready," I clarified.

"Why don't you think you're ready?" She asked softly, leaving her voice to calm my awakening nerves, and I sighed looking up at the ceiling no longer wanting to discuss this as I allowed the line to go quiet.

"Babe I know you have your fears and doubts right now but at the core, you are still the same brave, kind-hearted and determined person that I fell in love with. You're just going through some things right now but once this passes you're going to wake up one day wanting to go back because that's who you are, and if you want me to call off work next week Saturday and come with you I will," She expressed and I smiled trying to figure out how I got this lucky as my emotions began skyrocketing.

"Thank you," I replied, being completely grateful.

"You don't have to thank me"

"You know I love you right?"

"Yes I do and I love you too," She affirmed.

"I'll see you when you get home," I announced and she replied with a small okay before ending the call leaving me to be alone with my thoughts.

I walked downstairs allowing my gaze to immediately move over to Britt who was sitting around the island eating. I had just carried Aria to her room to let her sleep in the comfort of her own bed, and the act was something that I was extremely proud of myself for doing since a couple of days ago my legs weren't strong enough to perform such an action.
