(( Kasamatsu Yukio x Reader

It's so funny how a stranger can be your friend, and a friend turns into a stranger. ))

-Reader's POV-

"Yu-chan! Yu-chaaaaaann! I got a perfect score for our quiz today~! How about you?" With a triumphant smile on my face, I asked my bestfriend beside me while showing him my paper. We're currently walking towards the gym to eat our lunch.

(( Yukio → Yu-chan ))

"Shut up! You're so loud." He complained with an annoyed look on his face and rubbed his ears. He acted like his eardrums hurt.

"You haven't answered my question yet, though! What's your score?" I asked, pouting desperately at him.

"Tsk. I got 80% correct. Satisfied?" He asked while looking at me.

"I'm smarter than Yu-chan~ I'm better than Yu-chan~ Yu-chan got a lower score~ He got a lower score than mine~" I sang, jumping cheerfully. Because of annoyance, a vein popped on his forehead.

"Oh, shut up." He glared at me.

"Okay, okay~" I said and he sighed.

"By the way, since we lost against Seirin, we weren't able to go to finals in Winter Cup. Because of that, Coach decided that we will be having practice matches against strong schools so that we would still be able to play against other schools even though we lost." He informed me. His annoyance went away.

"Hmm, then, I'll wat-"

"Sorry, please don't. I'm saying this because I don't want you to interfere on our practices. Go to your own club and I can just walk you home after our practice and your club activities." He said with a threatening look on his face.

"Ehhh?! But..."

"Our training regimen will be tougher, so please, (Y/n), don't come. We need to concentrate and practice harder." He said, a serious look on his face.

Yu-chan is... my best friend. We were in the same school during middle school, and I enrolled to Kaijo in highschool knowing that he's going to study there.

When I saw and noticed how determined, motivated and serious Yu-chan is towards basketball... I fell in love with him. I admired his abilities, and adored his strong personality. He may be stubborn and easily annoyed, but I still love him with all my heart. To be honest, I don't find it annoying, instead I find it cute. Well, when you like someone, everything about him becomes cute even though it's not to other people's eyes.

"Ah.. okay, then. I won't disturb your practice." I said and looked down t our feet. I stopped walking then turned to face him and raised my head to meet his gaze. "But! Make sure to walk home together with me, okay?" I asked as I pointed at him.

"Of course." He nodded with a reassuring smile.

Yes, I liked him because of basketball. How he plays, how he concentrates and such.

But... somehow, I feel like... basketball is pulling him away from me. I feel like, basketball is building a wall between us. I feel like basketball is drifting us away from each other.

Like it's separating the two of us.

But of course I don't want to get in his way. Basketball is his hobby and talent. He loves that sport, and it makes him happy. And if he's happy, I am also happy. So as long as he's happy, I'm fine with it. I won't force him to stop playing just because he's slowly drifting away because of it. I won't tell him to stop loving that sport just because of my selfish feelings.
