CHAPTER 38

SOPHIA's POV

I was cruising along the highway, en route to meet up with Jason, when my phone buzzed, lighting up with my dad's name on the caller ID. I grinned and tapped the answer button.

"Hey, Dad!"

"Hey there, superstar!" My dad's voice was warm and familiar, instantly putting me at ease. "How's my favorite daughter doing today?"

I chuckled. "Dad, you only have one daughter."

He laughed heartily. "That's right, and you're the best one! How's everything going?"

As I merged into traffic, I updated him on the latest in my life. "Well, I'm on my way to meet Jason. He wanted to talk about something."

Dad's tone was curious. "Jason, huh? Everything okay there?"

I reassured him, "Yeah, it's nothing bad, I think. Just some mysterious business he wants to discuss."

Dad chuckled. "Mysterious, huh? Well, you've always had a knack for getting into exciting situations."

I couldn't help but laugh too. "Yeah, I guess I do."

Dad then surprised me with a topic that had been on my mind lately. "By the way, I wanted to say thanks for putting in an effort to like Kayla."

I felt a mix of emotions at his words. Kayla was Dad's girlfriend, and it had taken me some time to warm up to her. "You noticed, huh?"

Dad's voice was warm and appreciative. "Of course, I noticed, Sophia. It means a lot to me. I know it wasn't easy for you, but you've been great."

I smiled, feeling a sense of pride. "Well, she makes you happy, Dad. That's what matters."

We shifted gears to talk about his business, and he updated me on his plans. "Speaking of happiness, I'm thinking of coming back to Los Angeles soon. Things are shaping up well with the new project, and I want to be closer to my superstar daughter."

I could hardly contain my excitement. "That's amazing, Dad! I can't wait to have you back here. We can catch up on everything."

Dad's voice turned playful. "And I can finally meet this mysterious Jason of yours."

I laughed. "He's not that mysterious, Dad. You'll like him."

Our conversation took an unexpected turn as we reminisced about some random, funny moments from our family vacations. Dad had a knack for storytelling, and he had me in stitches with his hilarious anecdotes.

As I continued driving, I noticed the miles passing by, and it dawned on me how much I missed these heart-to-heart chats with Dad. It was more than just catching up; it was like a warm embrace, a reminder of the bond we shared.

We shared stories about our quirky family traditions, like the annual pancake-eating contest on Thanksgiving, and the time Dad tried to teach me how to ride a unicycle in the park.

I chuckled at the memory. "Oh, Dad, remember the unicycle disaster?"

Dad laughed heartily. "How could I forget? You were determined, even if it meant a few scraped knees."

Our laughter filled the airwaves as I navigated the familiar roads. Time seemed to melt away as we swapped stories, our conversation a testament to the enduring connection between a father and his daughter.

Eventually, as I neared my destination, I had to tell Dad that I had to go. "I'm almost at Jason's place, Dad."

Dad's voice was filled with affection. "Alright, superstar, you go ahead. Have a great chat with Jason, and remember, I'll be back soon."
