Chapter 40

'Sarah, please get a car ready for me' she said hurriedly as she stepped into the living room to see Sarah making a cup of tea.

'Of course' she said before rushing off

Remi smiled at her till she disappeared from her sight. She looked at her phone again and read his message. He had requested to come to his parents house and she had declined. He didn't want to see his mean family ever again, his mom, his new wife, his bitchy sister.

'My old house' he suggested

'Somewhere public?'

'Remi, it's you. Your face is everywhere and it won't take an hour before they find out who I was to you and it would create a buzz that could make things worse'

'Find somewhere and let me know' she finally texted before he sent her an address to somewhere outside on the other end of the island like it would help them in anyway.

Remi wore her sunglasses and tied her scarf around her neck.

She picked up her bag and zipped it up to keep anyone from peeking in and seeing the gun. She didn't know who he was anymore and she needed to protect herself.

She wanted to hear him out and his claim that his line could be bugged sounded stupid but she couldn't make herself doubt it.

Sarah walked back in to inform her the car was ready.

She walked into the foyer while speaking to Sarah

'I would be back before the end of the day. Tobi might be coming back home tomorrow but confirm with his office. If I get any message note it down and no one is allowed to visit except ophelia....' she instructed as they walked across the foyer to the door and down the stairs

'Of course...'

'the keys please' remi asked as she ascended the last stairs

'Ma'am, I can't....'

'Sorry, did I stutter' she said firmly

'No, ma'am' he said with hesitation in his voice. Remi stretched out her hands for him to place the key in 'ma'am'

He dropped the key in her hand and stepped aside. Remi never drove a car as fancy as this but she was prepared to wing it. She revved the engine of the car before starting it and driving off faster than she intended to.

Shit.

She swore as she drove past the gate to their estate.

She followed the navigation to the address he had provided till she arrived there.

It was an establishment chima's parent owned. She packed the car and carried her bag off the seat beside her. She took in a deep breathe as she looked at her phone. She found a missed call from Tobi.

Did they tell on her or was his call a coincidence?

She forced her phone into her bag and opened the door.

She walked past the lobby of the building and helped herself into the elevator. She pressed the button for the 11th floor and watched as the door closed.

She arrived on the 11th floor and used the sign to find the door she was looking for. She knocked on it and he opened it and came out breathing heavily.
