Clouds

I lay on the grass with my eyes to the sky
You lie beside me with yours closed
You say it's messed up in a small voice
I couldn't agree more

I look at the clouds so high in the sky
When even they can stay afloat
What am I doing down here, so low
When I should be sailing in my boat?

You take my hand and look upwards
I gently close mine around your fingers
I'm fighting the tears that started to fall
While the hurt in my beating heart lingers

The world is confusing, as is my heart
Is it truly a work of art?
Because it can feel like a nightmare
And I feel like doubting every prayer

I start to turn this thing on my shoulders
As thoughts spin round and round again
I look at you, you're looking at me
And your eyes show it: you know my pain

You softly smile a knowing grin
And look at my face but you see within
I slowly lift my sunken chin
And let your silent consolations sink in

I gently pull the ends of my lips
In a grateful smile I send your way
We both look back to the open sky
At least this time I'm not wondering why.
