Still in pursuit of Bowser, as Mario and Luigi move forward, they come across a Goomba.

Luigi is a bit hesitant and scared, but Mario confidently leaps over and stomps on the little brown mushroom creature. Another Goomba jumped down from a pillar which Mario deals with quickly by stomping on it. The two brothers jump over the pillar. On the ground stood two Koopa Troopas. Mario jumped down. Stepping on one Koopa Troopa, causing it to hide in its shell. Mario kicked the shell which took out the other turtle. The two brothers jumped to a nearby platform in which two more Koopa Troopas were standing. Following his brother's actions, Luigi stomped on one Koopa Troopa and kicked its shell. Taking out the other Koopa Troopa. Another Goomba walked over and Luigi, feeling more confident, ran over and stomped on the thing. The two brothers ran up the hill and waiting for them were four Goombas with a Koopa Troopa right behind them. Luigi jumped over and stomped on one Goomba while Mario leaped over the other Goombas to stomp on the Koopa Troopa and kick its shell, taking out the remaining three Goombas. Another Koopa Troopa jumped down, to which Luigi stomped on its shell and kicked it. Down the hill, the shell took out three Goombas. The two brothers jumped up a ledge to the high ground. Just ahead of them was a platform and two Flying Koopas. One had a green shell, the other had a red shell. Mario jumped onto the green shelled Flying Koopa which caused its wings to fall off and the turtle to fall. Luigi repeated what Mario did to the red shelled Flying Koopa. The two brothers looked down to the river below. There was one platform floating on the water with a Goomba on it. Mario jumped down with Luigi right behind him. Stomping on the Goomba. Up ahead was another high ledge with a green shelled Flying Koopa guarding it. Mario jumped over and Luigi jumped off Mario's head and onto the green Flying Koopa's shell. Knocking it into the river below. Mario jumped up to the ledge. Just ahead of the brothers was a long green pipe with a Koopa Troopa and four Goomba's on it. Luigi jumped onto the turtle's shell and kicked it. Taking out the four Goombas. The two brothers had caught up to the airship. Mario jumped for it hoping to grab onto the anchor, but he couldn't reach.

Luigi jumped off of Mario's head to gain extra height, but he too couldn't reach the anchor. Bowser had escape with the princess still captured.
