At school, Jade was there, but she wasn't there. She drifted in and out of the classrooms like a ghost, her head down and her eyes focused only on her schoolwork.

They tried to approach her, to ask if she was okay, but every attempt was met with silence. She'd simply turn away, her face unreadable, and ignore their worried glances. It was almost as if she was purposely avoiding them, pushing them away. It was as if she felt unnecessary, unneeded, and unwanted. It was as if she felt she didn't belong.

Beck watched her from a distance, his heart aching at the sight. Even though they had broken up two or so months ago, the space between them felt like a chasm. He could barely look at her without feeling a pang of regret and sadness. He wanted to reach out to her, to offer her his support, but he didn't know how. And that only made it worse.

As the day wore on, it became painfully clear that whatever was going on with Jade, she didn't want their help, at least not for now. All they could do was watch, worry, and wait for the girl they knew to return.
