Maxine was now settled into the train station depot with Issac, Jace, and Derek. Maxine had more of a bump showing now and Jace was very protective of her and his unborn children.
"Come on, you three, we got to go see someone who can help catch the Kanima." Derek says."Okay, who are we going to see?" Maxine asked as the four of them headed out." Scott and Deaton." Derek says.
"You mean Deaton as in the vet you two punched the last time you saw him that Deaton?" Maxine questions them."Yes," Jace cringes.
"You better apologize to him," Maxine says as They head off to the animal clinic and go to the front door.
Scott opens the door and Derek walks in with Maxine, Jace and Isaac behind him."What's he doing here?" Scott asks looking at Isaac."I need him," Derek responds."I don't trust him." Scott says."Yeah, well, he doesn't trust you, either," Issac says.
"You know what? And Derek doesn't care." Derek says." And Maxine says shut the fuck up before I spray you all with water like dogs," Maxine smirks.
Issac sends a playfully glare at her as does Jace."Now, where's the vet? Is he gonna help us, or not?" Derek says getting back on the subject.
"That depends." Deaton says stepping into the room."Your friend, Jackson... Are we planning to kill him, or save him?" Deaton questions.
"Kill him/Save him." Derek, Maxine, and Scott said at the same time."Save him," Scott repeats and Derek shows a defeated face."Save him," Maxine says to a satisfied Deaton. Deaton nods and motions for them to follow him.

Deaton gets a bunch of glass containers and brings them over to the table. Isaac goes to touch them and Derek grabs his wrist."Watch what you touch." Derek scolds him
"So, what are you, some kind of witch?" Isaac asks "No. I'm a veterinarian." Deaton says. Maxine giggles at Isaac's facial expression. Isaac playfully glares at her as Jace gives him a warning look.
"Unfortunately, I don't see anything here that's going to be an effective defence against a paralytic toxin," Deaton informs them."We're open to suggestions," Derek responds.
"What about an effective offence?" Isaac asks."We already tried," Scott said "I nearly took its head off, and Argent emptied an entire clip into it. The thing just gets back up." Derek explains.
"Has it shown any weaknesses?" Deaton wonders."Well, one-- it can't swim," Derek tells him."Does that go for Jackson as well?" Deaton asked "No. He's the captain of the swim team." Maxine softly spoke up.
"Essentially, you're trying to catch two people." Deaton says holding up a coin." a puppet, and a puppeteer,"
Deaton then places the coin on the operating table and says; "One killed the husband, but the other had to take care of the wife. Do we know why?" Deaton asked.
"I don't think Jackson could do it." Scott says."His mother died pregnant, too, and she was maybe murdered. I think he couldn't let the same thing happen to someone else," Maxine says softly as she touches her baby bump.
"How do you know it's not part of the rules?"Isaac asks."The Kanima kills murderers. If Jackson kills the wife, then the baby dies, too." Isaac adds on
"Does that mean your father was a murderer?" Scott asks and Maxine slaps him hard." Ow!" Scott groans."Don't ask insensitive questions then, stupid," Jace glares
"Wouldn't surprise me if he was." Isaac answers."Hold on." Deaton says."The book says they're bonded, right?" Deaton questions
Derek nods."What if the fear of water isn't coming from Jackson, but from the person controlling him?What if something affects the Kanima." Deaton says as he puts mountain ash around the coin.
"also affects its master?" Deaton points out."Meaning what?" Issac asked."Meaning we can catch them-- both of them," Scott says with a smile.

Maxine was sitting in the train cart carriage thinking about her life. She felt so alone now her parents were gone, as much as she loved Jace and her children she felt lost without them.
"Max?" Jace says gently stroking her hair." Sorry I should be focusing on this but my mind isn't cooperating at the moment," Maxine says softly." Hey, it's okay, I'm just on my way to the rave with Derek and the pack, just wanted to make sure you were going to be okay here?" Jace asks softly.
"I'm going to be fine, Jace go and I'll be here when you're done, just don't hurt Jackson he doesn't know what he's doing," Maxine says softly kissing Jace's lips. "We'll try not to hurt him," Jace says gently smiling at her.
Jace heads off with the pack and Maxine curls up in bed puts her hands on her baby bump and falls asleep.

It was hours after the rave and Jace returned with Issac after Derek had taken Scott to Deaton's.
They both find Maxine fast asleep and both boys agree to lie with her as they sense she needs comfort and love right now.
Maxine snuggled into Jace's chest and arms and fell back asleep with Issac behind her looking out for her and Jace. The mission didn't go well and they lost Jackson who killed the person in charge of the rave and they never caught the person who was controlling Jackson.
