Chapter 16: The Fire Fairy
The next day Nerine, Wraith, Norman, Lau, and Mylah were at the castle. Mylah and Norman were on good terms now that Mylah apologized to him. Norman was still kind of mad but he knew that Mylah had a good heart and deserved forgiveness. The group stood near the entrance and Mylah stood in the doorway of her castle. "Hello everyone! I invited you all here today to introduce you to someone who I haven't seen for a long time but he is here and he is.... uhm a nice guy so hopefully you guys can maybe become friends with him because he doesn't have many of those." Mylah said with a forced smile. She seemed mad and didn't seem to be excited about this guest. "Ok cool." Said Nerine. Nerine loved meeting new people so she was a little excited but also kind of concerned by the annoyed look on Mylah's face. "Agni!" Mylah called out. A man who looked to be about 5 feet tall walked out the castle and stood next to Mylah. He had deep black hair and an angry expression on his face. Then they also noticed he had wings like Mylah's accept seemingly made of flames. The man was a fire fairy. "Everyone, this is my cousin, Agni. He's a fire fairy as you can see." Mylah said, introducing him. "Hi, I'm Nerine! It's nice to meet you!" Nerine said, enthusiastically as she walked up to the man and shook his hand. She had a big smile on her face but Agni's face still looked serious but he gladly shook her hand. All of the others introduced themselves to Agni as well. "I didn't know you had any cousins, Mylah." said Nerine. "Yeah... I guess I forgot to tell you." Mylah said, laughing awkwardly. "I didn't know either." Norman mumbled. "Well Agni, it's great seeing you." Mylah said, sounding sarcastic. "Great seeing you too My My." Agni said with a smirk. "Did you want something?" Mylah whispered to Agni as the rest of the group went inside the castle to hang out. "Why would you assume that cuz?" He asked. "Because the last time I saw you, it was forever ago because you never reached out, you came to ask me for money. Then you left and I didn't see you for years." Mylah angrily reminded him. "Oh yeah well this time I just wanted to say hi. And it's not like you ever reached out!" Said Agni. "Well I'm busy with queen stuff." Mylah said, sharply. "Well I'm busy too." He said. "Oh yeah with what? Hanging out with your loser friends doing illegal stuff as usual." She scolded. "Whatever. Your friends are a bunch of nerds and you don't even have a husband or kids yet. Parents must be disappointed. Oh wait, they're dead." Agni berated. "What the hell don't joke about them! They're your family too. And it's not like you have a husband and kids either!" Mylah scolded. "Hey I'm not gay." Agni defended. "Stop lying to yourself, there's no shame." Mylah laughed. "Whatever I don't need a husband or whatever or kids. You just need them because you're the queen! There's supposed to be a king and also princes or princesses to take the role as queen or king someday!" Said Agni. "Well I'm talking to a guy who's really nice right now. Sure I've dated many people and it hasn't worked out but maybe this time it will." Mylah said, determined. "Sure. Wasn't that Norman guy who's in the castle right now your last husband. My mom said you told her that he didn't actually like you and he also had killed your last husband apparently. Also I'm 99.99% sure he's gay. You have very bad taste in men. Who's it you're talking to now?" Agni said, sounding sassy. Mylah sighed. "Well actually I'm talking to a very nice man who happens to be Nerine's dad." Mylah explained. "You mean the fish girl's dad? Really?" Agni rolled his eyes. "Yeah he's nice!" Mylah said, folding her arms. Inside the castle Nerine and Norman were talking to each other. "Not gonna lie, Agni's kind of hot." Norman whispered to her. Nerine glared at him. "What? He's a fire fairy." Norman shrugged. "He's also the cousin of your ex wife! He also scares me to be honest." Nerine whispered. "Whatever." Norman said, rolling his eyes. "So you're into guys?" Nerine asked. "I guess. I've always kinda known but my parents would've never accepted me so I hid it. And I lied to myself too. But I'm not gonna hide anymore. But just don't tell anyone." Norman explained. "What about you?" He asked Nerine. "I'm into no one." she said. Norman nodded and smiled.  As Mylah continued her heated argument with Agni, the rest of the group inside the castle noticed the tension between the two cousins. Nerine, in particular, felt uneasy about the situation. She had always been close with Mylah and didn't want any bad blood between them. Norman, sensing Nerine's discomfort, decided to intervene. "Hey guys," he said, walking over to the door. "Is everything okay out here?" Mylah and Agni both turned to face Norman. Mylah looked annoyed while Agni looked amused. "Yeah we're just catching up," Mylah said, forcing a smile. Norman didn't believe her but he didn't want to push the issue. Instead, he invited everyone inside for some refreshments. As they all sat down, Mylah seemed distant, avoiding eye contact with Agni. Norman noticed this as well but didn't want to make things worse. He decided to try a different approach. "So Agni," he said, turning his attention towards Mylah's cousin. "What brings you here today?" Agni smiled, looking pleased that someone was showing him some attention. "Oh, just visiting my cousin. It's been a while since we've seen each other." Nerine noticed the way Agni looked at Mylah. There was something there but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. She decided to ask Mylah about it later. As the group chatted and ate some snacks provided by Mylah's servants, Agni seemed to be getting more and more comfortable. He even made a few jokes and laughed along with the others. Norman seemed to like Agni a lot but Agni was mostly ignoring him. Mylah still seemed uneasy around him but she didn't want to cause any more drama. She decided to let bygones be bygones and try to make things work between them. Agni asked to stay in the castle for at least a few days. Mylah hesitantly agreed Nerine couldn't help but feel a little relieved that things had seemed to have worked out. She knew that Mylah and Agni had a lot of history but she hoped that they could put it behind them and move forward. Later that evening, Nerine found Mylah sitting alone in the garden, gazing up at the stars. Nerine approached her, taking a seat beside her. "Hey, Mylah. Can we talk?" Mylah turned to look at Nerine, her eyes filled with a mix of emotions. "Of course, Nerine. What's on your mind?" Nerine hesitated for a moment, unsure of how to broach the topic. "I was just wondering about Agni. He seems... complicated. What's your relationship with him really like?" Mylah sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly. She took a moment to collect her thoughts before speaking. "Agni and I have always had a tumultuous relationship. We were close when we were younger, but as we grew older, things changed. He has always been a bit of a troublemaker, getting into all sorts of mischief. And, well, our last encounter ended not so well." Nerine listened intently, a frown forming on her face. "I'm sorry to hear that, Mylah. But do you think there's any hope for reconciliation between you two?" Mylah looked up at the sky, a thoughtful expression on her face. "I don't know, Nerine. Agni and I have both changed over the years, and there's a lot of history between us. But maybe, just maybe, there's a chance for us to start anew." Nerine nodded, offering Mylah a reassuring smile. "I hope so, Mylah. Family is important, and it would be nice to see you and Agni on better terms." Mylah smiled gratefully at Nerine. "Thank you, Nerine. Your support means a lot to me." As they sat together in the quiet of the garden, Nerine felt a sense of warmth and comfort enveloping her. She knew that the road ahead for Mylah and Agni might be a rocky one, but with understanding and forgiveness, there was hope for healing and reconciliation. And with that thought in mind, Nerine and Mylah sat under the stars, sharing stories and laughter, as they looked towards a future filled with possibilities. As the group left the castle, Nerine couldn't help but feel a little curious about Agni. She decided to ask Mylah about him later, hoping to get some answers about the mysterious fire fairy. As Nerine approached Mylah the next day, she noticed that Mylah looked more relaxed and at ease. "Hey Mylah, can we talk about Agni?" Nerine asked, her curiosity getting the best of her. Mylah smiled softly and nodded. "Of course, what do you want to know?" Nerine hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I was just wondering... what's the deal with Agni? He seems... different, but I can't quite place it." Mylah chuckled, a hint of fondness in her eyes. "Agni is a complicated character, that's for sure. He's always been a bit of a rebel, but deep down, he's actually really kind-hearted. We may have our differences, but he's family, and I just want him to be happy." Nerine nodded, taking in Mylah's words. "I can see that he cares about you, even if he has a funny way of showing it sometimes." Mylah smiled. "Yeah, he may not always express it in the best way, but I know that deep down, he does care." As they continued to talk, Mylah opened up to Nerine about her past with Agni and the struggles they had faced. She shared stories of their childhood antics, their disagreements, and the moments of understanding that had brought them closer. Nerine listened intently, gaining a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between Mylah and Agni. "It sounds like you two have been through a lot together," Nerine remarked, impressed by the bond that Mylah shared with her cousin. Mylah nodded, a wistful smile on her face. "We have, indeed. And while things may not always be easy between us, I know that at the end of the day, we'll always have each other's backs." Nerine felt a sense of admiration for Mylah and the strength of her family ties. Despite the challenges they had faced, Mylah remained steadfast in her commitment to her loved ones. As the conversation came to an end, Nerine felt a newfound sense of appreciation for the complexities of relationships and the importance of forgiveness and understanding. She knew that the road ahead for Mylah and Agni would be filled with ups and downs, but she was confident that with their shared history and mutual respect, they would be able to navigate through any challenges that came their way. And as Nerine bid farewell to Mylah, she felt grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the fire fairy who had captured her curiosity and her heart. And with a renewed sense of empathy and understanding, Nerine looked forward to the adventures that awaited her in the days to come.
