The ring sparkled, taking her breath away. It wasn't the ring itself that surprised her, but the question it promised.
Maybe it was just the two of them here on the Pont des Arts, but there was surely someone watching, somewhere.
"I know I've hurt you, yet you gave me a second chance. I don't deserve it, but I want to thank you for everything you've done for me. Since the very beginning, you've been there for us. So," he paused, "it's a lot to ask after the things I've done, but will you marry me?"
Even before he'd said anything, she knew she would've said yes in a heartbeat.
And only one beat of her heart passed before she told him, "Yes."
