It's all temporary.
Emilie's death was temporary.
Nathalie's sickness was temporary.
The heroes' continuous success was temporary.
It was all temporary because soon enough, he would win and make the wish. Then everything would go back to normal. He would do it, no matter the cost.
It would all be undone, anyway.
At least, that's what he told himself.
So even as he continued to lose, and Nathalie got sicker, and Emilie remained in her comatose state, Gabriel tried to convince himself that it was just temporary.
But maybe it was his resolve that was temporary.
Because right now, everything else seemed permanent.
