15. - A disaster

The next day, Oscar, Logan and I all drove off right after breakfast and went to pick up Ally on the way. The vibe was still a little weird after yesterday, but we had all agreed to get the best out of it, and Oscar had promised it would only be the three of us for the rest of the trip. Oscar was the one driving, while I was sitting in the passenger seat and Logan in the back. As he pulled up in what appeared to be Ally's driveway, he shot me a glance, one that I knew by heart. He was checking to see if I was okay, so I gave him a nod and a small smile before our eye contact got cut short, when Ally entered the backseat of the car, exclaiming a loud "Hiiiii," as she did. We all greeted her back, and Oscar drove us to the Zoo.

When we arrived, Oscar led the way to the ticket stand, joined by Ally, who clung to his arm and began talking about the last time they apparently went there together. Logan and I were walking right behind them, sharing an already exhausted look, as we both knew today was going to be a challenge. As soon as we got inside the park, Ally was quick to drag Oscar along and lead the way to her favourite spots and animals around the park. This meant rushing past some animals, that I personally really wanted to stop and have a look at, but I also couldn't just stay behind. The whole time, she would talk to Oscar non-stop, not even acknowledging that Logan and I were also there, and wouldn't care about our input in where to go next.

After a few hours, we all sat down to have something to eat, and I had a hard time hiding my disappointment in the day. I had really been looking forward to this, but it had turned into a day all about Ally, and even though it was still nice to talk to Logan and spend time with him, I couldn't help but feel irritated, that she had hogged Oscar all to herself. And even worse was, that he just let her, not even taking a second to look back. Sometimes I really hated how kind and quiet he was.

"How about we go to the kangaroos next?" Logan suggested, looking at me. I smiled and felt my face light up for a second, only to let it fall again when Ally spoke up. "Ugh, they're nothing special. Why don't we just skip them and go to the lion's cage?" She suggested although it came out more like a demand, while she looked at Oscar. Oscar had his eyes plastered on me though, obviously in conflict about what to say, as he didn't want to disappoint anyone. "Let's just split up. Logan and I will go to the Kangaroos and you two can do whatever," I said, failing to hide the annoyance in my voice, and then got up along with Logan to walk off and find the kangaroos, not letting Oscar get in a word.

We both walked in silence until we finally found the kangaroos and went to pet some of them. "I'm sorry today didn't turn out as you had hoped," Logan said, standing beside me as we were petting one of the kangaroos. "It's not your fault, so don't apologise. I'm just really glad you're here at least," I smiled which he returned. "C'mon, let's take a photo!" I then said, trying to lighten up the mood a little, earning a chuckle from Logan. We both took a selfie together and then each took some photos of the other with the kangaroo. It made me cheer up a lot, and I was finally enjoying myself on this trip.

Logan and I proceeded to walk around the park a little more, going back to look at some of the animals that we had rushed by earlier and had a lot of fun together. We talked about everything and nothing, old and new times and really caught up and reconnected again. It made me realise how much I had missed him as well, as my best friend. After a while, I received a call from Oscar, which I picked up. "Where are you both?" He asked, and I put the phone on speaker. "We're by the koala's right now, why?" Logan answered after we both looked around to orientate ourselves. "Alright, stay there, we're coming," Oscar spoke and I felt myself roll my eyes when I hung up. "Goodbye peace and quiet," I sighed, to which Logan laughed and wrapped an arm around my shoulder. "Come on, we're going home soon and it will be all over," He said before we heard a familiar voice getting closer our way.

"There you two are! Was it nice with a bit of alone time?" Ally asked, winking at me, which made all three of us look at each other in confusion. "What?" Logan muttered, and Ally seemed confused now as well. "Well, aren't you two in a relationship, or?" She then asked, which made both me and Logan laugh out loud. "No, we're not. Logan and I are just friends," I chuckled. "If anyone here were to be in a relationship it would be Yn and Oscar," Logan then said, a sly smile on his face, which made Oscar visibly blush. Ally, however, didn't look too happy with that comment, as she glared at me and then at Oscar. "Oh please, she's not his type," she let out almost instantly, which had me completely flabbergasted. For the first time, Oscar looked at her with annoyance and seemed to have gotten enough of her, but before he could say anything, Logan spoke up again. "Not his type? He's had a crush on her since they met,"

This very clearly was a slip of his tongue, as Logan immediately widened his eyes after the words had left his mouth.  "Yeah, right," Ally said and rolled her eyes, but Oscar only walked over and joined my side, wrapping an arm around my shoulder as well. "Oh, it's true," He said, which caught me by surprise, and I looked up at him, not being able to hide the smile on my lips. Ally seemed to get the reality check of her life, as she stormed off, stomping her feet in annoyance. Logan let out a laugh at the sight, taking his arm from around me to face the both of us. "Finally you said something, mate. That girl is a disaster!" He spoke, and I felt almost like a weight had left my chest.

"I'm sorry guys, today has been awful..." Oscar spoke up, guilt filling his eyes. "Today is not over, Osc," I just said, squeezing his waist before leading the way out of the park. "But you were really looking forward to this zoo," He whined, following after me alongside Logan. "I was really looking forward to spending time with you two, which we still have plenty of time left to do, so how about we stop at a drive-in on the way back and eat in a parking lot, like old times?" I suggested, not wanting him to feel bad about today. Logan exclaimed "Yes!" in excitement, and I could hear Oscar let out a small sigh as we had made it back to the car.

"I need to go use the bathroom before we leave, wait here," Logan said and ran off towards the bathrooms, while Oscar and I both got in the car. "I'm really sorry, Con..." He let out as my eyes met his. "Stop apologising, okay? Instead, be happy and make it up to me by having fun with us for the rest of this trip, yeah?" I suggested and watched as a small smile grew on his lips. I knew he wasn't fully convinced that we were all right, so I reached over and took his hand in mine. "Oscar, we are okay, I promise," I spoke softly, and he didn't hesitate to pull me into a hug, his arms wrapping around me tightly, and mine around him.

"Thank you..." He whispered when he pulled away, and we both stopped a few inches away from each other, staring into each other's eyes. I then carefully placed my hand on the side of his face, whilst learning to place a soft kiss on his cheek. I didn't know why I did that, but it felt right to do so. It felt good. It felt even better, seeing the wide smile on Oscar's lips afterwards, while he couldn't hide the deep blush on his face. He looked adorable being all shy and embarrassed. "I don't think I ever told you this, but I always had a huge crush on you as well," I spoke, out of nowhere, and even caught myself off guard for a second. "What?" Oscar muttered, his eyes widened and I couldn't help but chuckle. "Yeah, ever since we met at camp, and up until we stopped being friends..." I admitted, not looking at him, as I was thinking back. I felt his hand on top of mine, causing me to look up at him. "Are you serious?" He asked, his eyes filled with sadness but a hint of hope as well.

"I am. I was devastated back then when you cut off contact with me. I remember wanting to tell you about it so badly, but then everything else happened, and I couldn't." Hearing myself saying this out loud was weird. The only other person I had ever told was Max, back when we first became close friends. Oscar didn't say anything, he just looked at me with eyes of regret. "Back in Monaco, Lando told me something-" I started, but our conversation was abruptly cut off by Logan, entering the car, making us both pull our hands to ourselves and compose ourselves again. "Let's go, I'm starving!" He said, and Oscar and I both shared a look, before laughing and taking off.

The rest of the night, we spent all three of us talking in an empty parking lot, eating takeout. It was a lot of fun, and we really found each other again. It was almost like we had never been apart. Like we had been friends since birth and had been inseparable ever since. I had never experienced a friendship like this, and it was the best thing in my life, ever. It was the one thing that kept me going and kept a smile on my face.
