"so your fuyuhito shinosuke" a man said
"uh, yes sir" i said
"i am marshal andrew constance, i command this station and have been leading the defence of the planet tyrnus for some time, tell me how did you gain control of a titan, and why does it have such a weakness as a five-minute time limit
"first, i'm not exactly from here" i said, his eyebrow raised
"oh" he asked
"i'm from earth, in the solar system of the milky way galaxy" i said, his eyes widened
"intergalactic travel is next to impossible, do to it's extreme danger, how did you get here" he demanded
"evangelion unit-13, what you call the titan i am using" i said
"how powerful is that thing" he asked
"powerful enough to wipe out all life on my planet on it's own, actually that's how i got here, i was tricked by my father into using it to do just that, instead of following through i tried to send it away, through what is known as the gate-of-guf, i'll need to go back" i said
"why, it seems that you'd be in danger if you did return" he asked
"i have better control over unit-13 now, then i did then, but more importantly, my own unit, EVA unit-01, is still there i am almost useless without it, that five minute time limit, probably won't exist on unit-01, among other benefits" i said
"i see, you will likely need help if you wish to reclaim your titan, your unit-01, i am certain my government would be willing to aid you" he said
"for what" i asked, he chuckled
"good you aren't too gullible, likely they will wish for you to enter service in return for our aid in this recovery mission, in return for your aid in this war, we will give you a ship and any other resources you may need" he said
"i see" i said
"take your time, think about it, i will have lieutenant lysseilia explain to you how this galaxy and more importantly how our nation and it's military functions" he said
"i'd be honored" she said, he nodded
"very well, then petty-officer joshua graham will take you to your temporary quarters, tomorrow and 0900 i want to get you tested to see if we can't get that power of yours completely awakened and to see what it is fully capable of" the marshal said, i nodded
"dismissed" he said and we left his office
"Mr. shinosuke" an officer asked, i nodded
"follow me, i'll escort you to your quarters" the man said i nodded and followed
we were led to a fairly comfortable set of quarters
"wow, this is better then my own quarters, the marshal must really be kissing up to you" lysseilia said, i was also impressed
"i guess" i said, she took a seat on the couch
"sit there is much we need to talk about, the marshal will likely have you skip the academy and have you pressed straight into active service, it's not unheard of, for extremely talented or skilled individuals to be put in service like that" she said i nodded
"so i guess i'll start with the ranking structure, at the very bottom, we will work our way up, so at the bottom we have the standard stock crewman, but they are exceedingly rare, and usually are the newest officers, after six months of service they are promoted to warrant-officer unless they do something stupid enough to stay at crewman which is exceedingly rare, from warrant officer we have, petty-officer third through first class in that order, from there we have the senior petty officer, followed by the chief petty officer, and then at the top of the enlisted we have the senior-chief petty officer, and the highest being the master-chief petty officer, a master-chief petty-officer, can choose to go to the academy to be commissioned and will automatically be admitted everyone else has to take a test, unless they are bonded to a dragon, dragons being the primary fighting force of the nation are also automatically admitted, with me so far" she asked
"yeah so far i am" i said, she nodded
"good, most officers are commissioned as such there are more ranks to compensate, at the very bottom you have the cadet, their trainees of course they'd be at the bottom, it as happened where commissioned officers who haven't gone to the academy would go as such they keep their current rank and aren't demoted to cadet, unless they abuse their authority, which happens on occasion" she said, i nodded for her to continue
"from there we have private, the ensign, then corporal, corporal is the first senior rank of importance they can lead a fireteam into battle, from corporal we have sergeant who is usually the XO of a squadron, moving on we have lieutenant my rank, i am a squad leader, then we have major, what will likely be your rank, you would be a platoon XO or a special forces platoon leader depending on the situation and what you are assigned, majors have also been known to command prowlers, then we have commander it is the minimum rank to command a starship bigger then a prowler or a corvette" she said
"right" i said, starting to take notes
"from there we have captain, which is the usual CO for ships, do you know what XO and CO means" she asked
"yes" i said, she nodded
"some don't anyway, from there we have fleet-captain, they lead small taskforces and or battlegroups, usually three ships in total, from there we have commodore who leads a squadron of five ships, then marshal, a station commander like this one, from there we reach the flag officers starting with colonel which is the regiment commander usually, from there we have rear-admiral who serves as XO for fleet coordination, then we have admiral, the lowest ranking fleet commanders they have a good dozen ships at their command, and this doesn't count the number of prowlers and corvettes at their disposal, from their we have the vice-admiral, then we have the grand-admiral, from there we have general, then brigadier general, and then we have the minister, and finally at the top is the first minister who is the supreme-commander of all military forces of the nation, and is second only to the elected chancellor who leads the nation" she completed her first explanation
"wow" i said as i finished
"you have a lot of ranks" i said
"it's necessary, we have over two hundred and fourteen billion soldiers in our military, spanning over the course of fourteen sectors of the pegasus galaxy, that is three thousand eight hundred and sixty two worlds, and that does not include the numerous space colonies scattered throughout"
