we found the garrison of the city we were to be defending in shambles

"sir, welcome to cirteska, i'm lieutenant matthew collins, i'm in command here" the lieutenant said

"a garrison is led by a major, what happened to your commanding officer" lysseilia said

"she died, two weeks ago, ma'am, she was our last dragon, she didn't have a rider, and had attempted to drive off the enemy and give us some breathing room, she did take a number with her, but all it did was give us more time to survive, the marshal has ordered you to be fitted with her old bridle lieutenant, major shinosuke is supposed to be taking command of this unit until our permanent commander arrives" he replied

"i see, well then, have an officer show me to the armory i can get fitted, and give the major a full debriefing of the situation" lysseilia said

"yes ma'am" she said

"slowly, don't talk at a gallop" i said

"yes sir" he said, i nodded to lysseilia who left the room found an officer and allowed him to lead her to the armory while i got a report on our situation

"it seems morale here is almost non-existent" i said

"after we lost the major, morale tanked, the major kept our hopes up, both for being a dragon, and because she was so charismatic" he said

"i see, hmm, continue with your report lieutenant" i said, he did so, telling me that they were exceedingly understaffed, running out of power-cells for their rifles, and bullets for the physical firearms they had were also almost gone

"what about melee weapons" i asked

"everyone is armed with their ceremonial blades sir" he said, fearfully, worried that i'd just send them out to their deaths

"show me to the main courtyard" i said, he did so showing me the two gates

"close the city gate" i ordered, he ran to an officer and issued orders five minutes later the city gate closed

"heavy blastdoors it would take several hours of nonstop attack to break through" he said, a plan was starting come along

"if the men were faced one on one against the enemy what would be our chances" i asked

"we'd win, the enemy are beasts, mindless we usually can out think them" collins said

"major" lysseilia said as she walked up

"lieutenant, how good are you in melee combat, when in an actual battle environment, can you kill with a sword as you can with your claws" i asked

"i won't hesitate sir, why" lysseilia asked, as i smiled

"gather the men, Mr. collins" i said

"uh sir" he asked

"trust me son, gather the men" i said, he nodded, as he went and did so causing the two hundred man garrison to line up

"i have heard of our situation, our munitions are low, morale is as low as can be, we need a victory, and more importantly we need reprieve, a way to get these bastards off our back for a few days, well, i'm gonna get them off our back, and i'm gonna do it in the dumbest way possible, in two hours, i'm going to order the gates open, and i'm gonna let a sizable chunk of those bastards into the garrison" i said, this caused uproar but i held up my hand for silence, when i didn't get it i nodded to lysseilia who shifted into her dragon form and let out a roar, that silenced them almost instantly

"once i have let in roughly a hundred, i'm gonna reclose the gates, trapping the hundred enemies in with us, for us to take out at our leisure in close quarters combat, i'll do this a number of times until the attack on our walls diminish, this should clear up the problem, and give us some time to rearm and resupply while also giving you all a well deserved break, then once we are resupplied we can invite those bastards into the garrison where the can be slaughtered by gunfire" i said, this caused silence as many looked at each other even lysseilia was looking at her superior incredulously there was no way this would work

that being said two hours later the gates were opened and the walkers came in droves, but they realized too late that the gates had closed behind them and they were charged from all sides by the garrison forces who began to slaughter the walkers, only two died, and only six were heavily wounded, overall a major success, one that caused a great victory throughout the base

this was done another four times, the men would be given an hour to prepare once more then the gates would open, more of the walkers would be let in and they would die

eventually the walkers outside got the picture and began to withdraw

"in four days they will forget what has happened, these machines don't have the best memories" lysseilia said, i nodded

"reopen the city gates get the men on a rotating shore leave they get twelve hours, split it up however you wish" i said, she nodded her head

"understood, your excellency" she said, i looked at her confused

"flag officers are referred to by that title, lower ranks only get the respect by earning it, you've earned it from this whole garrison today" she said, i shook my head

"all it took was a little thinking outside the box" i said
