"ah so my useless husband did something right for a change good, it is good to see you are well daughter" she said greeting her youngest of two children
"thank you mother, it's good to see you as well, meet my transitionary rider, and my commanding officer, major fuyuhito shinosuke" lysseilia said
"my lady" i said
"andrea will do, or admiral when we are on duty" she said
"as you wish admiral" i said
"i would recommend inform your crew of their shore leave you will be here for about a month, and this system is quite peaceful, we have not had an attack here in a good three years" she said
"simply because you have said that i'm gonna put my people on high alert" i said
"isn't that counter-intuitive" she asked
"in his culture there is a term known as the jinx, it means to cause bad luck, this would be the sixth time someone has jinxed us, so by this point i believe it" lysseilia said
"really" she said, they nodded seriously
"we believe we've won and permanently driven off or outright eliminated the enemy, someone says it, two days later we are confronted with the biggest assault yet, right when we've let our guards down" i said, she grimaced as she understood
"i see well i hope that doesn't happen here, these last three years has caused the systems garrison to become exceedingly lax, i am not sure if we could hold off an attack that is bigger then a light skirmish" she said
"prey it doesn't get to that point then" lysseilia said, andrea nodded, as they shuttled down to the city
"so has he taken you to his bed yet" andrea asked curiously, i had gotten used to this type of conversion and decided to tune it out entirely, the first sixteen times it was embarrassing now this would be the twenty-eighth of this same conversation, he seriously wondered why these people were so open about such an intimate action, as i opened a book and began to read from where i left off
"no, he continues to refuse me" lysseilia said
"whyever for" she asked
"our partnership is temporary, we both know this, he doesn't wish to sleep with someone he will be parting ways with" lysseilia said
"hmm, i see, have you thought of finding a rider to bond with" andrea asked
"i have" she said

"i have a conundrum" she said

"i would like for fuyuhito to claim me himself, but he refuses, because of our title, he is of the opinion that a commoner should not hold authority over a noble, unless experience and professionalism is involved" she said
"so higher military rank only" andrea said, lysseilia nodded
"exactly, a bond is extremely intimate, and he believes i am too good for him, that being said command has made sure we are glued at the hip, he is still my transitionary rider, and he is my commanding officer, he is also the only person on the thanatos willing to spar with me, so we see a lot of each other, he however keeps me at arms length at best i am his friend" lysseilia said
"it sounds quite frustrating" andrea said
"it is, he also no longer needs me at this point, before he wasn't strong enough to fight completely on his own, and needed the support of a dragon, now he has no such need his own power is enough that he can get away of making excuses against riding me, and i am positive that is what he is going to start doing the moment he has mastered his new powers" lysseilia said
"is there anyone he wishes to claim" andrea bonded
"i just said we've been bonded at the hip, we've met numerous unbonded dragons, we've even led a few of them, but he has never shown any interest in claiming any of them, i don't think he ever will" lysseilia said
"so he's one of those commanders" andrea said
"hell no, do you know how many battles he's insisted we be at the front of, the major always leads from the front, he leads by example, he will never ask any under him to do what he won't, he is an amazing CO, i am honored to serve with him" lysseilia said
"i notice how he hasn't said a word" andrea said
"he's ignoring us" lysseilia said, not even bothering to look at her commanding officer
"he can do that" andrea asked
"quite well, he got tired of listening to people talk about our sex life, where he comes from it's a bit taboo, he will continue to ignore everything we say, until i tap him on the shoulder it signifies the conversation is over, and he will have no clue what we've said, you don't see it but he has what are called earbuds in his ear, they are a smaller more portable headset used to listen to music through something he calls an SDAT player" lysseilia said
"we really need to put more time and money into our entertainment, something like that would be handy" andrea said, lysseilia nodded
"would he ride me" andrea asked
"if you gave him a direct order to do so, again it would not be the first time, there have been several high ranking dragons, that rather liked how he uses his brain, his out of the box strategies have gotten us out of a number of tricky situations, and he is a skilled rider to boot, i didn't make the decision to bond with him lightly mother, he is everything i have asked for in a rider, and i'd happily serve him, if he would simply accept me" lysseilia said frustrated
"simply wait until he is a noble, then pester him until he agrees, he'll come to eventually just to stop you from being annoying" andrea said
"who knows how long that will be and i still run the risk of him potentially find another dragon to bond with before that point" lysseilia said
"that is true" andrea said
